Apparently Serling himself only thought about a third of the Twilight Zone episodes were any good. I've not seen the entire series so I can't say if I agree with him. Anyway, I watched I Bury the Living last night. Bit Twilight Zoney, with Richard Boone unintentionally condemning people to death every time he sticks the wrong pin in a map of the local cemetery. I was strangely fascinated by the fact that even as a young man Richard Boone's face looks like it was made out of concrete and leather. In all truth Serling's probably right (I would say 70/30 but then I'm a fan). Bearing in mind that the series ran during the 50's it really was ground breaking and I would suggest that Night Gallery was actually ahead of it's time, but now seems dated due to the 70's fashion worn and the piss poor quality of the video taped episodes. "I bury The Living" is a terrific little film which puts me in mind of Cemetary Man for the obvious reasons.

Just picked up a Planet of the Apes DVD/novel combo. God knows how many times I watched the film before I realised that Serling worked on the screenplay but in retrospect it makes perfect sense. The whole thing could be a big budget feature-length episode of The Twilight Zone.
Btw, I see that Saddle the Wind, the Western Serling scripted, is on More4 Tuesday at 10.35.

Just found out that the first episode of the Twilight Zone that I ever heard about --featuring people trapped in a house while a strange substance oozes in through the windows -- was in fact an episode of Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense. Another childhood illusion shattered.

I bought this DVD too and thoroughly enjoyed it. I never got to see it at all when it was first released. Great variety of styles. I'd definitively pick up season 2 if it came to DVD.

There was an episode made over here with a doll coming to life, I think.
