An excellent anthology. This is the cover of the original hardback copy brought out Shadow Publishing: The cover art was by Harry O. Morris. The new cover is equally splendid. This is by Edward Miller: Of the stories I particularly liked La Serenissima by David A. Sutton, which I originally published in Beyond back in 1995, and which is one of Dave's best stories, remarkably grotesque and atmospheric. David

I'm extremely surprised this doesn't feature Aickman's classic Never Visit Venice.

Good collection and I also wondered why Never Visit Venice wasn't included. That tale kept me awake the other night. Aickman is one of the few authors I can re-read time and time again. www.birdsnest.me.uk

Just thought I'd update this post, some years on! The paperback edition from Steve Upham's Screaming Dreams is out of print, but I see copies are available at Abebooks. My hardcover edition can be found at both Abebooks and on Amazon. This Shadow Publishing edition is not out of print, I still have a few copies left of the 200-copy run, and you can get one from me on Ebay here: Phantoms of VeniceIncidentally, re. the comment about Aickman's "Never Visit Venice" not being included: The anthology never meant to have reprints. However, I asked Joel Lane to write an introduction (A Dream by the Old Canal) discussing earlier Venice-set stories and he did a marvellous job, commenting on fiction by Poe, Le Fanu, Amelia B. Edwards, M.P. Shiel, Thomas Mann, L.P. Hartley, Fritz Leiber, du Maurier and Aickman. The cover artwork for the harback is by Harry O. Morris. Dave S.
