I'll do that. I've read some of his science fiction, which is a bit on the cerebral side - more an ideas man than plot-driven sf.

"Cerebral novel about black magic" describes Black Easter perfectly. To drive home that point, the original title of the novel was Faust Aleph-Null.

As Dem mentioned, Black Easter is part of a thematic series of works by Blish, grouped under the title AFTER SUCH KNOWLEDGE. I haven't read any of the other novels, but they are Dr. Mirabilis, The Day After Judgment (a sequel of sorts to Black Easter), and A Case of Conscience.

Didn't know they were connected. I've read Dr Mirabilis - that's about Roger Bacon, the medieval philosopher, and A Case of Conscience is the famous one that won a nebula. I didn't realise the latter is quite a valuable book - again at the Lifeline Bookfair I saw two copies of the Faber first edition in dust jacket, I thought I wouldn't be greedy and took the one in best condition and left the other. I was horrified when I got home and noticed that it's worth a packet, but there you go.

I was lucky with 30, Found it mint for a couple of euros in a German shop along with 28. But I think its a toughie to get. Felt guilty really...but not for long
