Pendulum by John Christopher (perfect condition 1969 copy - one I gave away once). I've heard great things about this one, Rog, something along the lines of "the great counter-culture horror novel", though I guess it's usually thought of as SF?

Found these today...
"One Foot In The Grave" - Davis Grubb (Arrow 1966) No, nothing to do with Victor Meldrew...
"The Macabre Reader" - Ed. Donald A. Wolheim (Digit 1959)
"The Sorcerers of Set - Sexton Blake No.27 (5th Series)" - Martin Thomas (Mayflower Dell 1966)
"The Haunting of Toby Jugg" - Dennis Wheatley (Hutchinson April 1956) Nice hardback with a cover that made me buy it...
"50 Great Ghost Stories" - Ed. by John Canning (Book Club Associates 1984) This could be the only dud of the bunch, not sure yet...

oh, you are going to love 'sorcereors of set' as it's one of the best fifth series blakes, and is a wonderful piece of martin thomas at his best! of course it gets explained, etc, but that's the format - the writing is prime pulp!

Cheers Pulp, that's bumped this one up the top of the pile I've not read a Sexton Blake before but I recall Martin Thomas' "Hands of Cain" was a good read.

Had a right old haul today, Leeds Market and a couple of shops in Harrogate. Here goes:
Herne the Hunter 11: Silver Threads (have not checked but this reads like an LJ effort. Short knowing sentences, nihilstic etc... about halfway through and it's a good 'un)
Edge 24: The Day Democracy Died (have nearly got all the first 25...I love Terry Harknett so much. Please somebody make an Edge film, or at least a computer game...)
Enter The Dragon - Mike Roote (10p...when will i read it?)
Richard Laymon - The Cellar
Night Cruise - Billie Sue Mosiman (looks like a fairly prurient crime/murder effort...bought to make up a '3 books for a quid' deal)
The Festering - Guy N Smith (cracking cover art. is this a good GNS? becoming quite a connoisseur now...)
Michael Linaker - Scorpion (got 'em both now...again, great cover art)
The Terror Of The Seven Crypts - 'Ettiene Aubin'
Star Child - Fred Mustard Stewart (very lurid cover)
The Beast Of Kane - by 80s renaissance man, author, actor, bouncer Cliff 'Pike' Twemlow
John Halkin - Slither and Blood Worm
Savage - 'soul-searing supershocker' by Paul Boorstin (great shrunken heads on cover. anyone read this? Corgi, 1981)
Wheels Of Rage - Kurt Saxon (NEL US written biker business)
Scottish Tales of Terror (Fontana)
Jubal Cade 18: Time Of The Damned (Isn't Jubal the nicest PC hero going? Doing it all for the little blind boy, and correcting him on his grammar. Plus he looks like Keith Moon)
got all that lot for less than 18 quid...not bad going
Plus, recently acquired "Let's Go Play At The Adams'", "Beasts Of Gor" (i don't know if I'll ever read one of these...they do look very painful...should I go for it?), "Slimer" by Harry Adam Knight (looks good), "Tales Of The Unexpected", "The Haunting Of Toby Jugg" by Wheatley (never read owt by him yet either), "Fox: Blood For Breakfast" by 'Adam Hardy'/Ken Bulmer (OK, will read a few more i think, very convoluted writing style and not enough violence for my taste but enjoyable...he's a good character. A woman does get her breast shot off in this book though, which is pretty out of place compared to the rest of the action. Fuck knows what all this nautical terminology means though), and 'The Force' by Gerald Suster (an enjoyable romp, not what i expected at all), amongst other things. Got a big pile to work through but I'm getting there!

Star Child - Fred Mustard Stewart (very lurid cover) SF-ish title, but he wrote a supernatural thriller called The Mephisto Waltz, filmed late 60s, I think. I read the first chapter once. Sadistic but wooden. Dunno if you'd like it. Best of luck! One of four Wheatley's I read in my teens. Not sure if I could read it now. Pretty good haul!

"Slimer" by Harry Adam Knight (looks good) >>
Complete trash ! Of course HAK is an amalgam of two writers - John Brosnan and another bloke whose name escapes me. Slimer is one of their early collaborations - it's basically Alien aboard a North sea oilrig - loved it myself !

I've not read it - but I hear it's HAK's best writing but still trashy. If I saw a copy I'd pick it up myself - if that's any recommendation ?! I got a copy of John Brosnan's ZEPPELIN awhile back - still unread - but that's never an indication of a book's worth when it's in my collection - just haven't found the time for it yet.

Brian Ball - THE VENOMOUS SERPENT Horror No.3 1974. Classic nel release!
Andrew Sinclair - CAT Sphere 1977 Big game hunting in Surrey!

John Halkin - SLITHER - Hamlyn Horror 1980. Another big -up for this in the HH section!
Bernard J Hurwood - KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS - Mayflower 1978. Based on the sensational film starring Bill Shatner!
Mike Linaker - SCORPION Second Generation - nel 1982. 'Nuff said - top writer - top book!
Ken Bulmer - KANDOR - Paperback Library U.S.A. 1969. The Jeff Jones cover caught my attention and it's Kenny B - sold!
ARMARDA SCI2FI 1975. I had the first book in this series as a kid - perhaps my first science fiction purchase. Bought for sentimental reasons and the odd cover.
James Darke - THE WITCHES 5. The Meeting - Sphere 1985 First copy of this series I've ever run across - treating with caution!
and finally Guy N Smith ... who else?
Guy N Smith - THIRST - nel 1988 reissue.

Big fan of McGregor - his JUNGLE ACTION Black Panther tales are a *must* for the Bronze Age Marvel fan! Also KILLRAVEN ( available as an Essentials trade) is highly recommended! Never read SABRE - but I very much doub't it's not a winner - I mean Gulacy on art ?!
Cool ...

Nothing for ages and then ....
Pierce Nace - Eat Them Alive (Nel, 1977): Often cited by Vault vets as the very worst NEL novel. Thanks so much for this lovely surprise, ade!
Ben Leech - A Rare Breed (Pan, 1996) : Latter day Pan with a proper horror cover. A new drug unleashes demons from the other side or something. Looks very good, truth be told.
William Harrington - Columbo : The Grassy Knoll (Titan, 1994): Columbo's investigates the murder of an obnoxious talk show and blithely unravels the truth behind the assassination of JFK. Sure, I'd have preferred the next book in the series - Columbo tackles the Manson Family in The Helter Skelter Murders - but this will do to be getting along with.
Guy N. Smith - Warhead (Nel, 1981) . From the blurb it looks like Black Magicians have gained control of a nuclear weapon or several. One of the gloomy ones, I take it?
Gardner Dozios - Strangers (Hamlyn, 1980): vault of sci-fi fun and games although I'd have preferred a Hamlyn nasty. Nice arse on cover, mind.
Anne Billson - Suckers (Pan, 1993); Yuppie vampires, "Bleeding London Dry". Ain't that the truth? Quite possibly satirical in intent.
