I just had to have that Cannibal book so I went and bought it today on ebay! And now for a stupid question.. Even though I'm from Ohio I do know what a "car boot" is, but do you mean that you got these at a flea market or are there actualy folks in the Uk who are just selling stuff out of the back of their cars? Take care. Doug My copy of "Cannibalism and Human Sacrifice" arrived yesterday and reading just the 1st chapter on the Fiji Islands has already put me off my feed ! I really would have appreciated this book muc more as a tweleve year old! take care. Doug

There aren't too many cannibals around thankfully. Anthropologists tended to find that the cannibals were always in the next village. A bit like football rivalry really where you local rivals are tarred with the worst possible characteristics. Eating opponents brains was fairly common though. Can't say it appeals much.

Do you notice anything wrong with that so-called "Mansion of Evil"?

Sadly not from a boot sale but from a dealer.

Been a bumper pick - about 20 more I shan't post as I couldn't be arsed to scan them all in - a couple I already have, but on the main, new to Mr Mains - and altogether for less than £11 all in.

Received a bunch of books in the mail from my ex who I am still on relatively good terms with and who has been a chief encourager of me reading these types of books:
Slimer by Harry Adam Knight The Worms by Al Sarrantonio Snakes by Guy N. Smith Abomination by Guy N. Smith Alligators by Guy N. Smith and Cannibals by Guy N. Smith
Also, nabbed these two Murray Leinster paperbacks off of eBay:
The Monster from Earth's End and Checkpoint Lambda
Checkpoint Lambda seems more sci-fi than horror unlike Monster from Earth's End, which fits more into the "creature" genre and was the basis for the incredibly inept film The Navy vs the Night Monsters.
Also, had a rather odd mixup with a UK book seller. I ordered Slimer from them and was sent, instead, something called The Shrine by Robert Faulcon. Near as I can tell, based on the cover art, it involves a demonic horse. Complaining to the seller, I was told they didn't have Slimer in stock (!) and so my money was refunded and I was told I could keep The Shrine. Whatever. Fortunately, my ex came through, offering to send me his copy of Slimer which he said he didn't need since he'd acquired a PDF of it. The other books by Guy N. Smith and Al Sarrantonio were sent essentially as bonuses, it seems.
And last but not least, The Incredible Shrinking Man by Richard Matheson. Intended for reading on a train trip I ended up never taking.

Nice bunch of books! The only book by HAK I've read is SLIMER ( loved it) , though it was quite a while ago so my memory is hazy on it!
KC - Who just got Richard Haigh's ( Laurence James') THE FARM in the post. Finished the sequel THE CITY last night - enjoyed this psycho porkers yarn.

The Gathering by Isobelle Carmody
Technically fantasy but I've started the first three chapters and its kind of dark.
I also picked up three books by R. Scott Bakker in some trilogy about the Apocalypse. Naturally, you'd think that this was my kind of thing but after fifty pages I began scratching my head -too many characters, loads of thoughts, intuitions and emotions, swift changes of subject. feelings, discussion, conflict.
I turned to wikipedia to check out why (a) I wasn't enjoying the book one bit despite the rave reviews and (b) had no idea what was going on. Yup - female author strikes again. Call me a chauvinist but 9/10 times I can guarantee this reaction. As its a matter of taste I would say its not a matter of prejudice. There are certain female authors I think are wonderful and there are certain male authors I simply can't stick but mostly female authors do nothing for me.
