Today I bought The Camp on Blood Island by J M White and Val Guest 0- Granada 1982 printing. First published in 1958 - parting with 50p for this wasn't rocket science. Eat that Ebayers...

Only 2, and both of them SF (although I did recently pick up a copy of 'Mr Norrell and Johnathan Strange' by Susannah Clarke - has anyone bothered with this one?)
10,000 Light Years from Home - James Tipree Jr (some seriously good Sf from the early 60's and 70's)
The Paradox Men - Charles Harness (finding this was one of those weird book type coincidences which happen sometimes. I was reading a story called 'The Rose' by Harness in the massive 'Science Fiction Century' and was seriously, seriously impressed with it. It had the same feel as some of Ballard's 'Vermillion Sands' stories. Anyway, the next day I went to the local second hand shop, and pretty much the first book I saw was 'The Paradox Men', which Brian Aldiss raves about in 'Trillion (Billion) Year Spree', so I'm looking forward to this one)

I've managed to snag a few bargains this past week at a local flea market... The Black Arts - Richard Cavendish - Pan (1969) 2nd Edition Waves of Terror - Ed. Michel Perry - Gollancz (1976) Any chance of a cover scan/ contents list for Waves Of Fear, Lord Froggy? I wish you well with The Richard Cavendish book! To say i found it a struggle ...... It's a terrible admission to make, but I far prefer reading up on the exploits of the Black Magicians (Toytown chapter) who seemingly spent the 'seventies and beyond exposing themselves to News Of The World journalists than this terrifyingly brainy stuff.

Apologies for being away - been so busy it hurts, but in a good way. On the way back from giving one of my infamous after dinner speeches at a posh manor house in the depths of the Smerset countryside last night I picked up the following:
Pit & the Pendulum - tie-in with the 1961 AIP picture with gorgeous poster art as the cover
Tandem horror 2 - Ed by Richard Davis
Reign of Terror Vol 1 Michel Parry - Hardcover 1st Ed
and
Pocket Chiller Library No 1 - The Body!
I am far more chuffed about this ratty little comic book than any sane person should ever be, but it's wonderful starting point towards rebuilding my collection

Didn't bid on the former as it had no Clark Ashton Smith, but did win the anthologies Time of Infinity and Other Side of the Moon from the same seller.

If you can provide a scan that would be much appreciated, but please don't go to any great trouble. I've never even seen a copy of Waves .... before!

Very good haul this weekend.
Leeds Market:
Speed Freaks - Peter Cave Scanners novelisation Fox no 14 - Adam Hardy Women's Battalion - W A Ballinger (Granada/Mayflower 1978, written in 67, WIP stuff, looks sleazy but I could be wrong) Adam Steele 19
and in the second-hand bookshops of Manchester (glad to say there's still a few there, what a great city, pisses on Leeds...):
Edge 11 David J Michael - Death Tour (NEL, good cover of alligator attacking in the sewers...anyone know owt about this one?) The Cats - Nick Sharman The Bamboo Demons - Jory Sherman The Morgow Rises! - Peter Tremayne Deathsport - William Hughes ('Now a successful film!' - some Death Race 2000/Westworld type carry on) Curse - Daniel Farson The Sanctuary - Glenn Chandler
pleased with this lot. re: the save Vault thread...this is a very 'Vault' selection of books, imho...

Paramount Books on Shudehill and the Corn Exchange were brilliant shops in Manchester many years ago. Two months ago I found half of their old stock at twice the price in a shop that used to be the old Grassroots bookshop near Piccadilly square.
Refreshing also to see loads of porn hidden in the back shop. (Honestly, I was only looking for more books) Brought back the good old days of being twelve years old and wading through dodgy shops in search of Nel Paperbacks and having no idea why anyone would want to look at naked women when adventure stories where at hand.

KC, my mind gets more and more full of this great rot by the day. I've bought and read loads of great stuff recently, and I'm going to take it upon myself to post more reviews. Just did another Track one in the Western section.
