Of course they are based on the truth! And very faithful adaptations they are too. They are things of beauty, thats for sure. Glad everyone seems to like the pics.

A lovely collection there Matt. I'm extremely jealous. Thanks for sharing those - such a burst of nostalgia I can hardly stay standing!

I bought a few of these back in the early/mid 1970s. A previous poster wondered if they were reprints of foreign publications. I am not sure of that but around the same time Top Sellers were reprinting issues of the Skywald horror comics for the UK market. The Pocket Chiller Library series did seem to have more of an adult feel to them than other contemporary titles and the ones I read all had downbeat endings. The best one I read, for which I cannot recall the title, was about an astronaut returning from a space journey and gradually turning into a ravenous beast. Whatever is causing the transformation is infectious and by the end of the story there are a number of these beasts running around.

Hi everyone, my first post here. I've been collecting these little buggers for the past 3 years and have still only managed to run up a total of 18. My copy of number 126 Trip Fantastic is the sole remaining copy I've got left from my youth - I think I had about 9 or 10 back then - gawd knows where they went! I've been trying to get some kind of check list together but am still missing a few. Can anyone help fill in the gaps??
BTW Mattofthespurs - your collection makes me drool!

Excellent checklist Wotan!
If you took some of it from mine at the top of this posting I've just realised No 121 is actually called Face in the Fog!

Thanks for that John, - yes I did shamelessly plunder part of the list from here. I've changed it on the list above. Wish I could find more about - the prices go too high on ebay.

No 19? Found it here: www.phil-comics.comUnfortunately a cross genre book and doubtless plundered from both sides.

Thanks Craig - I've added it to the list. Billy the Kid doesn't sound as chilling as the Night of the Cactus, does it? Only 12 more to go...

Damn you all, damn you all to hellllll! (Falls to knees on floor and pounds the sand - or at least the threadbare carpet). Now I have to go trekking over to Derby again, because that's the nearest place with a halfway decent secondhand bookshop. And I so want these books!

Once I started looking I couldn't stop. I'm just a tad ashamed of the time I spent finding this out when I should have been working No 34 Brides of Death. Couldn't find a scan. and once you've seen No 98 Condemned Woman You're not going to sleep till you've found it. Night of the Cactus is definitely the pocket chiller wotan

Brilliant! Another 2 added to the list. What a fantastic cover Condemned Woman has. I MUST HAVE IT!!!
I nearly had kittens earlier on - I was flipping through a box of Commandos comics in the local Oxfam (at £3 each!!) and thought I'd found an elusive Chiller - same design layout and same box logo but it wasn't: it was a Pocket Detective Library instead. Still bought it though..

I think the later ones were reprints? Anyway, I rushed off to the local shop because I though there were some there but they turned out be old Army books and all the genre ones had been grabbed years before. I remember loads of these being around for peanuts years ago.

I think the later ones were reprints? They were, and quite a few were retitled as well. From the artwork the fashions being worn suggested they were originally drawn early 70s and as I said higher up the thread I suspect the artists were European because the Commando artists could apparently onlyy draw rugged battle-scarred men as opposed to the delicate young ladies to whom horrible things happened in these little books. I still can't believe I got rid of all mine

I still can't believe I got rid of all mine I feel for you John. I never forget twice selling almost my entire collection of books. God knows what I was thinking - perhaps that I might finally have grown up. it was brought home to me when I bought some great looking things from Mike Don of Dreamberry Wine. When I got the books I realised that they had one previous owner - me....
