Sorry for the brief reply but a flying visit today... To be honest, I've only ever read one Angela Brazil and have never gone further because I couldn't remember a thing about it afterwards! It put me off further reading, but it's not enough to form a proper opinion. All I do remember is that it was one of the earliest girl's books I've read, being just pre-WWI (1912, I think). And I wouldn't presume an opinion on Elinor Brent-Dyer as for some reason I've never read her beyond the one story that's in 'Chin Up, Chest Out...' I liked that, but have never been right place right time to pick up one of her books, and my internet book buying is sparse (too many charity shop and fairs purchases piling up!). I feel that I should, as she's generally reckoned to be extremely good. I've just loaded a few Chalet School books on to my Kindle, so I should be able to give you an informed opinion on Elinor Brent-Dyer in due course.

And so to Misty number 8. I don't think that the cover works as well as it should, which is disappointing. The Sentinels provided some fine interior artwork, and this was the only Sentinels cover. The issue starts with The Cult of the Cat. In the final panel of this page Nicola is learning about her cat-like abilities, but (to my eye) the perspective doesn't look right. Nice moody artwork for Moonchild, though, in my opinion.

This is just to let anyone who cares know that I haven't given up on this project. I need to photograph more issues of Misty, then ladle the pictures into the Photobucket to soak off their excess bytes. I'm not likely to get round to that until after the weekend, and it could take a bit longer than that.

I see what you mean about the perspective on that Cult Of The Cat page... I prefer Moonchild - one of those girls has a very knowing and superior look about her. The sort of girl that mums would tell you 'she's trouble'... which of course made you want to know her all the more. I really do like the Misty editors intro page - that is such an atmospheric 'portrait' drawing. Please do keep 'em coming. me and Dem are watching, at the very least!

The portrait of Misty on page 2 was always very atmospheric. These were the work of Shirley Bellwood: ukcomics.wikia.com/wiki/Shirley_BellwoodThere were some very satisfactory bad girls in Moonchild, we should see a bit more of them in forthcoming posts. This morning I took some photographs of Misty issues 9-16. Next, I need to upload them to Photobucket. They should start to appear in this thread fairly soon.

I couldn't make up my mind which three photographs of Misty issue 9 to take. So I took four, and will divide them between two posts. This is one of the better Misty covers, I feel, with the face and the locust. As ever, Misty's introduction on page two is pleasingly atmospheric. The final panel on page three (Paint it Black) is (in my opinion) one of the finer pieces of Misty artwork. Attachments:

These are the two pictures between which I couldn't decide. First, we have the end of an episode of Paint it Black and the start of one of The Cult of the Cat. I like the way the episode of Paint it Black ends with the semi-circular panel with the eyes. Opposite, we see panicking young priestesses and a wizened high priestess. Then, we have the final two pages of an episode of Moonchild. On the left hand page, I very much like the levitating child. On the right hand page, the bad girls at the bottom are exceptionally pleasing. The dance of triumph (evidently barely keeping her knickers covered) strikes me as really weird. Attachments:

Question for mr. brain! Was the short fiction exclusive to the 'Misty' annuals and specials or did it feature in the weekly mags too?

Question for mr. brain! Was the short fiction exclusive to the 'Misty' annuals and specials or did it feature in the weekly mags too? If you mean text stories, there's short fiction in many issues of Misty and in all three of the specials. The early issues don't have such stories, though. I'd need to check to find when they started.

On August 17th, there's an event to interest Misty lovers: www.bl.uk/whatson/events/event164725.htmlI see that the double page spread chosen by the British Library is one that I recently posted on this thread.

I'd need to check to find when they started. Courtesy of the dormant (?) Misty site, here's the complete contents list for the magazines/ specials/ annuals (the text tales are in slimy green) You seem to have answered your own question, Janitor Of Lunacy. Yes, I think that site is dormant. It has shown no sign of amendment in recent years, and parts of it don't seem to work as well as they should. As a matter of fact, I attempted to gain access to that list (with text tales in slimy green) in order to answer your question, but I was met with error messages when I clicked on my link to the Misty site. I thought that perhaps the site had finally died. I'm relieved to see that it isn't so. It looks as though the text tales started around issue 9, a matter I could verify from my own copies (some other time, not now). Answering your question off the top of my head, and unable to look at the Misty site, the best I could manage was: "The early issues don't have such stories, though." Perhaps on account of its dormancy, sites devoted to other girls comics don't always link to the Misty site. See this Jinty site: jintycomic.wordpress.com/ On the other hand, this Tammy one does have a link to Misty: marionette.org.uk/tammyproject/

On to Misty issue 10. The cover is pleasing enough, but not calculated to give children nightmares. On page 2, an atmospheric illustration from Shirley Bellwood, as usual. Opposite, The Cult of the Cat on page three has an unusual feature to its composition. The snake on one side and the swordsman/sword on the other form a heart shape. I can't see how that could have been an accident. The double page from Moonchild starts with a satisfactory group of bad girls and ends with a haunting focus on Rosemary's eyes.
