What made Guy do all this?...simple...I asked if he would like to do some audio books and then it's got bigger with new ideas, reprints etc. He is just the nicest man. I've actually been a guest at his place for the past two weekends working. He is still driven and being allowed to go though his personal stuff, uncovered new manuscripts and about 20 very detailed synopsis' for new novels...Gargoyle is a belter of a story. Crabs' Fury gets printed next week...and is released to coincide with the relaunch of the GNS fan club and the www.thesuckingpit.com website. Neil

Hi Niel
Just knowing that GNS is gonna have a site called thesuckingpit.com put a really stupid smile on my face, let alone the forthcoming audio's and what amounts to a second coming as far as his writing career is concerned. And your post got me to thinking. Earlier in the year PS published the wonderful Basil Copper: A Life In Books edited by Stephen Jones. It's an exhaustive bibliography but much, much more; there are tributes from fellow authors, photo's of BC at various stages of his career, examples of Basil's fiction and various tit-bits that give the project a lovely scrap-book feel. Now, wouldn't it be great if there were an up-to-date GNS equivalent ....

Aha...I now know who is hacking me on a regular basis... The concordance has already begun and is being done by David Zuzelo who wrote the excellent Crustacean Domination article about the Crab franchise (It will appear in the new Crabs' Fury). I know David is looking for reviews of GNS books from a readers pespective (not a critics)...please drop me a line if you want to help out (if I haven't already asked). While Guy and I were scanning book covers et al at the weekend, we discovered a whole pack of stuff that was long forgotten...including the synopsis for Gargoyle...a number of completed manuscripts and also one by his mother completed just before she past away...no crabs in that one though. The Great Scribbler has a lot more life in him yet. Personally I'm looking forward to the new chapters for Night of the Crabs...gotta love the man. Neil neilmjackson@ghostwriterpublications.com

I read a review of my short story collection in the latest issue of the BFS magazine, Prism, where the reviewer said about me in relation to Guy N. Smith: The two writers share a similar sort of English pulp sensibility, and the writing styles of both are pared down and easy on the eye. I don't know whether it was meant as a compliment, but I took it as such. If I had sales to equal Guy, I'd be a happy guy (guy, Guy, get it ) My style is economic I suppose. I just don't like stories that waffle with pages of prose.

I haven't been able to read that review yet (still waiting for my copy of Prism), but I would never have thought of comparing your style to GNS. Pared down and economic, yes, but I would put your style head and shoulders above that of Smith. Though I take your point about sales. I would love to have something published that was half as successful as his!

Aha...I now know who is hacking me on a regular basis... Ah, but you see, i'm inside all of your computers - I thought everyone knew by now! Just keeping an eye on things you understand, nothing at all to worry about! I'm not the least interested in your little secrets (although, frankly, those "safely encrypted" *smirk* home video's I snagged from ________' s hard-drive - phew!: they'll be going on the wide-screen down The Grave Maurice this evening, that's for sure! Meet me on the door, mention "Vault Steamy Video" and I'll get you a discount on the admission fee) and .... what the fuck am I blabbering on about now? Right. Sensible head. I'll put this here in case one of the readers can enlighten us. As with all the illustrations to the stories in Fear #13, the artwork to The Decoy is uncredited. I'm guessing it's the work of Oliver Frey who would seem to be the house artist, but do you know better?

If you have sales with Fangtooth, that match Guy's...I too will be happy (Oh no...the wife is looking at a new kitchen).
And Kev...thanks for pointing me in some direction toward the artist.

I wouldn't want to be the poor bugger attempting to compile a complete bibliography of Guy's vast output...especially if you were to include the frankly huge number pseudonymous stories, and factual articles, he has published over the years Guy was staggeringly prolific during the seventies and eighties, in particular.

Step forward that poor bugger!
Penning a piece on the Smithmeister for Book and Magazine Collector. Guy has furnished me with some excellent material to help (apologies if this has delayed you getting your hands on it Neil!) and the plan is to expand my Pulp Mania article to include work in the 1980s and beyond.
Hopefully it will raise awareness of the new Guy material being released. All of which sounds verye xciting!

That was the first time I discovered who the man really was (after years of speculation among the s/hand shop gossips). Looking forward to the new piece - as you say, this is a very exciting time. One, if I'm honest, I'd all but given up on hoping would ever happen. I predicted a GNS resurgence around 12 years ago...glad to see it's decided to happen at last

I may have mentioned before but we are bringing out a GNS Concordance...detailing art, reviews, synopsis etc. It's a big job and THAT project is being done by David Zuzelo in US.
He did the afterword in the forthcoming Crabs' Fury called Crustacean Domination. Guy loved his work and it was an easy ask to get him to help with, as we all know, is a tough gig.
And I know that if anyone wants to add a book review, david would love to hear from you.
Don't sit on the wings...give him a shout.

You aren't by any chance doing a cover for the concordance too?
