I'm delighted to report that this year's Zardoz pulp fair will be held at the usual venue, the Victoria Park Plaza Hotel, London, Victoria, on Sunday 19th Oct 2008, 10-4, 30+ booktables (tables £50 each, 2 for £90), entry £3. There has been a small but Vault presence lowering the whole tone of these events since we started in 2005 (you will know them by their unfeasibly huge shoplifter coats and trail of empty beer cans, etc.) but still we seem to be made most welcome and this has become a big date on the evil social calender! Thanks to the excellent Maurice Flanagan at Zardoz Books for the tip off!

I wish I could join you all. The idea of wearing an unfeasibly huge shoplifter coat and trailing empty beer cans sounds attractive!
But the distances are just a bit too much, I'm afraid. One of the downsides of living 'ere up North!

By the way, I believe there's a BFS open evening in York coming up soon (late August?). I'll post details as soon as I know for sure.

Might have a trip to the Smoke for this...never actually been to a book fair. Do you think I'll be able to pick up 'Chainsaw Terror' and all the Caleb Thorns I need, for bargain prices?

i dunno about that, but there's always a table where all the paperbacks - in great nick - are a quid, and that's well worth a ferret - i'm aiming for the reprint stuff this year, as i gave that a miss last time then regretted it.
the only trouble is that they were trade paperback size, so you need a coat with larger piockets than usual...
oh, and there's a weatherspoons down the road for when the cans run dry...

^ah wetherspoons, truelly the haunt of kings =O) Not when we're in there, it isn't. The people responsible for the superb £1 stall pulps mentioned are Marian and Bob, by far the cheapest traders i've encountered at the fair, so perhaps it would be an idea to drop them an email nearer the time to make sure they're going to be there!

^ah wetherspoons, truelly the haunt of kings =O) Not when we're in there, it isn't. My dear Dem you do yourself down. We may not wear crowns or tiaras (at least not in public) or ermine-lined robes but in terms of sleazo pulp horror we are rich indeed. We sit on thrones of tarnished rosewood and feast like kings on yellowing paperbacks and moldering hardcovers. We have rubbed shoulders (or rather spines) with Bloch and Birkin. We have leant our ears to Saxon, N Smith and so many others. And our benevolent but voracious appetites we are always ready to entertain more. No idea where that came from

Managed to regig my work hours and will be able to come down - have to bring the missus with me - when I told her it was a book fair, she said - 'oooh, maybe I'll find a nice 1st edition Jilly Cooper...' This is the woman I'm marrying people. The ultimate pisstaker....
