Not sure if I'll be talking to myself as I may be the only northerner around here, but here are the details anyway in case they are of interest to anyone else. Bradford International Film Festival at the National Media Museum is coming up shortly (29 Feb - 15 March), and there are some interesting genre films being shown, including: George A Romero's Diary of the DeadMary Shelley's Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh version) Cthulhu (I've heard really good things about this - hope I can get to see it) The Cottage (recent horror comedy, purportedly as good as Shaun of the Dead) Blade Runner: The Final CutThe Phantom of the Opera (1925) - with live music accompaniment by Cipher And film/documentaries: Martin Scorsese Presents: Val Lewton - The Man in the ShadowsSpine Tingler! The William Castle Story
Details at: www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/biff/In May/June, the National Media Museum runs the Fantastic Films Weekend, devoted entirely to horror/SF/fantasy films - worth watching out for that one too if you're in the area.

Well I might count as an honourary northerner as I lived in Manchester for years. I liked the people up there with there dry humor and if it wasn't for the awful chips I might have survived a few more years. The Boddies helped a lot.

I'm a natural born northerner. I grew up in Greater Manchester and lived in Whalley Range until about 1990. It's funny how people's perceptions differ, isn't it? I never had a problem with the chips but the Boddies is one of the reasons I left!

Small world - I lived in Whaley Range for a year as a student. I say 'lived' but 'inhabited' might be a better term.
Don't you knock the Boddies now. Good pint. Not as good as eighty shilling but in a tight corner you can't complain.
The chips. I still remember buying my first tray of chips near Piccadilly Square. It was the first time I realised that England was truly a foreign country as the language was utterly different. I was used to saying 'chips' and getting chipped fried potatoes. Instead a kind of parboiled soggy mess on a tray and then they asked me if I wanted mushie peas. Didn't eat for a week.

Manchester! That's wrong side of t'Pennines! The chips are better in Yorkshire. Don't know about Boddingtons though - hubby drinks Tetleys. PS: I'm actually a southerner, but I made Yorkshire my adopted home many years ago.

Nice up there. Used to record in a studio near bakewell I think, then he moved further up.

"but the Boddies is one of the reasons I left!"
You've left me speechless.
