The thread that refuses to die! coral reprises ray milland in Man With X-ray Eyes horror! andy bugg's in terrifying encounter with the central line flasher! lady bumtickler - returned from the grave and up for malarkey! what new hell have we brought down upon ourselves? where will it end? etc.
If only I could remember the author, but a book I regularly borrowed from the library until someone else filched it was Night's Dark Agents, which, while touching on steamy literature, was more of a delve into the seedy underbelly of all aspects of polite 19th Century society and very recommended. If anyone can provide details, I'd be obliged.
Later
Found the culprit! It's the late Ronald Pearsall and the full title is Night's Black Angels: the Forms and Faces of Victorian Cruelty (1975). can't recall the publisher but the dust-jacket reproduces the famous woodcut from The Newgate Calender depicting the monstrous Elizabeth Brownrigg in action, which is a bit saucy as she was executed at Tyburn in 1767.

cock of cecil? that must be the bloke who exposed himself to me on a packed tube coming home from Liverpool St last night. The carriage was packed - why me?? I did what anyone would do... Well, personally I'd have stapled it to his leg but perhaps that's just me... and I appreciate that not everyone carries a stapler... you could probably get good results with Super Glue, if you didn't happen to have a stapler handy.

Let me get this straight. The Coral who is keen to snap our collective quivering love-slugs is the same Coral who found an artists impression of Jean Jacques Burnell in his smalls a bit extreme and all but expired on the spot when she stumbled across a thread on which we discuss (in a very sensible and dead grown up manner too, I might add!) the many strands of Victorian Literature? It's "political correctness" gone mad!

dearest demonik, a lady must retain her mystique Actually Troo, I don't have a camera, I was simply going to pretend to be taking a picture with a home made silver painted box as a ruse to get them all to parade their willies in front of me

I was simply going to pretend to be taking a picture ... as a ruse to get them all to parade their willies in front of me Thanks for putting that image in my mind, Coral. I think it's going to be a lasting (and truly horrible) one. Excuse me while I violently throw up .... * makes puking noises *
