Well, I'll make that more difficult by praising the entirety of Pariah and Other Stories. A quality collection. Thanks Ian

Glad that you like it, dem bones! Just a quick correction: Jennifer Ryder isn't exactly suicidal, she's just very down about things. Note that I say that she's a cutter, not looking to kill herself. Scarlet Ryder, of course, is a very different proposition: she's loving her new life and then some!
As a quick side note, let me just point out that '...Toto Coelo' was written in a white heat after the basic idea popped into my head. Which is probably the best way to write it! I was inspired equally by the lurid, throbbing, and sometimes supernaturally/horrifically- themed pieces of short fiction that filled the pages between photos of attractive women in deshabille in such magazines as Mayfair and Men Only during the late 1970s to mid 1980s, and by the gross-out violence sections of the likes of the early James Herbert or Shaun Hutson. I suppose that you could call the whole thing a tapping-into my inner hormone-ridden teenager, with all of the fondness for sex and gore which that state can often entail!
