I'm not going to relate the "Best Ofs" or "Worst Ofs" of 2020, simply because right now I'd MUCH rather look forward than back (though I agree with primrosehildebrand about the movie "Tenet" - I'd rather have extensive root canal work without local anaesthetic than see it again).
In any case, for almost all of 2020, the UK has been teetering on the edge of a precipice. But now, with 2021 in sight, it feels as though we are about to take a great step foward....
Happy Hogmanay to the Vault and all who sail in her!

I think you'll enjoy them both. Terror Tales of Cornwall is making its way to me, so in the spirit of Dr. Proof's post, here's hoping it ends up on my 2021 "best of" list. Nice composition on the photo.

Here's hoping for good health and happiness in 2021 for everybody at the Vault and their loved ones; I've really enjoyed the postings, info on yet more books I want to read, and best of all, the banter!

I can't recall many moments of levity that I have experienced in 2020. I went through a phase where I just couldn't finish a book. I would get maybe halfway through and just lose interest, so I have read many more short stories than novels this year. Also, I have not bought many books, so most I have read has been stuff I have had sitting around for years. Being able to come to the VoE site and read threads and contribute has been a real tonic against the seemingly constant stream of bad news. I think most people, including yours truly, were very glad to wave a less than fond farewell to 2020 last night. I hope that the new year will be a major improvement, and I wish a happy, healthy and safe new year to all Vault members and their loved ones.

In fact, the only reason I stayed up to midnight was to make absolutely certain that 2020 had left the building. Mrs Ripper was working until 8pm last night and on again at 8am today, so we were in bed by 10.15pm. Heard some fireworks going off presumably at midnight but just closed my eyes again and thought good riddance to 2020.

I didn't exactly expected a new Jazz Age, but 2020 was a steep road downhill into the abyss with broken brakes, Corona was only a part of it. So good riddance to it.
I wish all denizens of the Vault a better and healthy 2021. Like Swampi wrote, I enjoyed the paket. To another year, cheers.

The grimmer it became, the more difficult to concentrate for any length of time until I gave up on novels and the more demanding non-fiction items altogether. Nowhere open to buy books, so fell back on those gathering cobwebs on shelf of shame, hence much 'true ghost' stuff.

Kev, any possibility you might review Joy Fielding's The Transformation? The search engine says this is the first mention of the book on here.
No pressure whatsoever. Hope you and Chrissie are coping with the New Year.
cheers, Steve

And Krzysztof Penderecki. I guess he is not as high profile as Alex Trebek.

And Krzysztof Penderecki. I guess he is not as high profile as Alex Trebek. There are even more. I only listed those which I knew well. Actor Reni Santoni was unforgettable for me on Seinfeld for instance, of William Link's (one of the creators of Columbo) death I only read today in a crime-blog.
