I'm a collector so I'd be looking for a clean near fine/fine in like dust wrapper copy. No ex-library. I'm going to assume there were no second printings.
I've recently become interested in the William Kimber ghost collections form the '70's and '80s and this is my first post. Thanks for the site. There seems to be a ton of info here but it's going to take me a while to get used to navigating the Vault.
(I'm in the USA.)
Edit: Might as well add some others.....
Ghosts in Country Villages Cornish Ghost Stories (need an upgrade) Stories of the Macabre Stories of The Occult Stories of Fear Stories of Haunted Inns
...plus others. Thanks for looking.

I'm quite a fan of this series and, unfortunately, nice copies are very difficult to find in the States. Even ex-library copies are rather uncommon to find here. They are definitely worth the search though and I wish you good luck. Mr Happy

Wish you good luck too.
They're not that easy to find in UK either, the difficulty being Kimbers main clients were the libraries which is maybe why not so many copies of the books show up in great condition. As mentioned elsewhere, when W.K. sold out to Thorsons in 1988 the stock passed to remainder bookshops - can remember piles of mint Chetwynd-Hayes and After Midnight Ghost Stories on offer at 50p a time and still nobody seemed to want them!

I've been pretty lucky over the last year picking up 33 titles, 99% fine in fine jackets (only one ex-lib). While all of the Kimber supernaturals are tempting, I think I'm mainly attracted to the great anthologies from Denys Val Baker and Peter Smith. Of the several I've read, I've enjoyed about 95% of the tales. Great stuff.

I thought I'd update my wants. I've been pretty lucky over the last year with my Kimber quest. After picking up about five Chetwynd-Hayes titles I decided not to collect him. I've also skipped some of the Dracula related things. I've got the rest of the William Kimber supernatural titles (according to the list on this web-site which I can never find) except.... Peter HainingDEAD OF NIGHT GHOST TOUR Denys Val BakerSTORIES OF THE OCCULT STORIES OF FEAR (I could also use upgrades on STORIES OF THE MACABRE and especially CORNISH GHOST STORIES) I think that's it. I've got nice copies in dw of the rest. They look so pretty lined up on the shelf. If there are any that any that needs a contents list that's missing here I'll be glad to post them here. Maybe someone could point me to the thread where the Kimbers are discussed. I'm probably an idiot but I have a bit of a hard time navigating this site. I have a supernatural novel by Barbara Whitehead that was a 1984 Kimber called SHADOW'S END. I think it may have missed the list.

Lovely looking set! I've Stories of Fear but postage from Aus is stupidly high these days. Indeed it is, and incoming postal charges aren't to be taken lightly either. Things won't be improved if the $5 per parcel "processing fee" that the Federal Government has recently proposed for every item coming from overseas ends up being introduced... *shudder* Mark

I don't know what sort of price range you're operating in with regards to your collection, but if its of any interest then the Ryde Bookshop on the Isle of Wight is currently offering a copy of Haining's DEAD OF NIGHT for £9.50. It does have a sun faded spine admittedly but there is no mention of it being ex-lib and only a little light foxing as an internal issue. I sometimes find that its worth picking up lower grade copies on the assumption that an ex-lib copy with a better jacket will turn up which can then be substituted.
Wonderful looking set you've accumulated by the way. I never tire of seeing pictures of such assiduously put together collections.

Nice collection!
I never heard of Kimber. Are these all original compilations? Chetwynd-Hayes of course not, but I looked Mary Williams up at ISFDB and it appears at least that the stories were written for the collection.

It seems the Haining anthologies are filled with mostly old chestnuts with the Val Baker titles being a little more interesting with a mix of new stories and not so well known stories. I believe most of the Mary Williams stories were probable written for the books. (The stories Haining picked may not have been quite as ubiquitous 35 years ago.) Caveat: That's mostly guessing. I'm not an expert on these. I'm just getting into exploring them. One thing I have sussed out is that Denys Val Baker had good taste. (And that Cornwall seems a very exotic and haunted place to this American.)

I'm a Brit and yes, Cornwall is definitely, er, unusual. I lived there for 50 years between 1984 and 1988... Let's just say that there are folk there who send themselves Fathers Day cards. Like "Deliverance" with cider. Impressive collection; good hunting on your the book search.

The RCH's are all originals, although he very occasionally recycled a story from his early paperback collections.
