On the whole I'm a fan of this genre, but I understand why many people have little patience with found footage films. The formula seems easy to emulate, much like the slasher film, but the techniques involved are actually very difficult to pull off convincingly, leading to some of the worst horror films ever made. I particularly like the "VHS" films. Though the stories are a mixed bag as with most anthology films, the first two films contain some outstanding segments, notably the vampire girl story in the first film. The wraparound segments also create the same level of creepy weirdness found in the best Creepypasta. A found footage film I've enjoyed recently is "The Possession of Michael King". I got this from a pound shop, expected little of it, but was enthralled by the film on the whole. It's about a documentary film-maker who invites the demonic into his life in an attempt to debunk the supernatural.
