I'm not familiar at all with the name Tom Hood.  Is he discussed elsewhere on the Vault?

From Mammoth Book of Thrillers, Ghosts & Mysteries, 1936.

"Tom Hood (1835-1874) was the son of the humorist and poet, Thomas Hood, author of Song Of The Shirt and The Bridge Of Sighs. He spent some years in the War Office and later became editor successively of Fun and Tom Hood's Comic Annual, the idea of which was taken from his father's Comic Annual, which appeared in 1830."

The Shadow Of A Shade seems to have been his only ghost story. I think his father was responsible for A Tale Of Terror (7th Fontana Book of Great Horror Stories).

Poor fellow died around aet. 39.  So, not much time to write, all things considered.  I do know the name Thomas Hood but can't recall what, if anything I may have read--possibly just saw his name in poetry anthologies.
