Ramsey Campbell - The Searching Dead (PS Publishing, 2016, hc, 271 pages) Cover: Les Edwards
Cover found on the net. Thanks to the original scanner.
This is Book 1 in the Three Births of Daoloth trilogy. The first novel begins in 1952 and starts a story spanning several decades, following the (in the first book) teenaged protagonist to our contemporary times in which he is in his seventies.
As S.T. Joshi writes: '[…] the trilogy becomes less an homage to Lovecraft as a grand summation of Campbell's nearly sixty years of life and writing. […] The Searching Dead is many things at once: a poignant tale of teenage life; an historical novel that tellingly speaks of the cultural and economic environment of post-World War II England; and, of course, a kind of prelude to the comic horrors to be found in the two subsequent novels.'
The PS edition is OOP, but there is a paperback by Flame Tree Press and an eBook.
