Please tell me PAGAN LESBIANS is a for-real book from the glory days. I know several people who have LIVED that title. cheers, H. I'm afraid so! As indeed are Satan Was A Lesbian, Counterfeit Lesbian, Executive Lesbian, The Bashful Lesbian, Lesbian Triangle, Just Friends (the cover art suggests this may not be the case for long) .... Many of the above feature in the exciting new Sleaze Bay department, essentially a consumers guide to "the finest in adult fiction" circa 1960-1969. It's probably safe to suggest that if you've a pre-soiled copy of Kept Boy stashed under the sofa, you are literally sitting on a fortune. Despite a page count exactly twice that of Men Of Violence #4, Sleazy Reader #4 takes approximately half the time to read. How so? Because it is primarily a visual experience - a loud, wild, sexy, funny, perverted, ridiculous, disconcerting and ever so slightly scary visual experience from which you may never recover. The issue hinges around B. Astrid Daley's celebration of Doug Weaver's iconic cover paintings. Once extraordinarily prolific in the game, Mr. Weaver, now aged 92, does not seem best pleased at having been reminded of his pre-fine arts past, so Astrid and fellow collectors have pooled their detective skills to compile a complete catalogue of his work (it's an ongoing project). Mr Sleazy's article on Epic Books: Blood Cults & Wanton Witches is an eye-opener in that it introduces a hybrid genre I suspect many of us were unaware of - Sci-Sleaze- and for once the novels sound as interesting as their packaging would have you think. Cases in point include Jim Harmon's The Man Who Made Maniacs (1961: a bizarre horror-writer-in-peril extravaganza), George H. Smith's 1976 - The Year Of Terror (1961), Ross Camra's Assault! (1962) and, one for the Women's Death Brigade, Twilight Girls (1962). Good to see the popular Phallic Symbolism Column has grown increasingly, enormously outrageous with every issue. I'll thank you to be bloody careful where you're pointing that arrow, Ms. The Naked Archer! All images scanned from Sleazy Reader 4

Just out of curiosity (honest, Guv), I looked for a price for 'Satan was a Lesbian' and there were several copies on ABE for £274 + £10 postage from the USA...crikey, that is some serious money.

As we all know, you can put an extortionate price tag to any old tat, doesn't mean to say anybody will be desperate or financially secure enough to meet it. But in the case of the sleazies, it seems there are some SERIOUS COLLECTORS out there who might consider £284 a "good investment."
