Hello all,
I'm a longtime reader of this stuff (as well as related American counterparts, Poe, the Weird Tales circle etc., and classic sci-fi). Currently reading some of Blackwood's John Silence stories.
I'm sort of an ex-expat, recently back in the U.S. after almost 20 years in the UK. I miss the pulp and paperback fairs every year in London! And I miss the days where there was more than one secondhand book shop on Charing Cross Rd., and you could get poor condition bound copies of The Strand in the basement for 2 quid! Seems not that long ago, but I guess it all went pear-shaped in the early 2000s. I keep having totally irresponsible fantasies about packing it all in here in the U.S., and returning to do an MA in gothic literature at Stirling.....
Anyway, glad to find this forum.

When you do head back to Stirling, give me a shout. I'm just up the road in Dunblane. I'll buy you a pint. Or four.
ETA: should have said that my daughter's doing an English degree at Stirling - she may end up as your tutor! (If I can persuade her to start earning a living.)

Welcome. I kind of liked the bookshops in the deep south. Loads of classy hardbacks - bit short on pulps

It would be a totally irrational, self-indulgent thing to do but you never know.... Not sure I could convince my wife to go back to the rain.
