THE SAVAGE SWARM by Harlan Ellison Simon Belkin - A lab assistant employed at Kessler Electronics. He befriends Dr. Mathou after Mathou chooses him to help him with his experiments. Dr. Franklyn Mathou - An eccentric, driven scientist who works at Kessler Electronics. He discovers a means of creating a time bubble through which he accidentally unleashes hordes of giant killer insects. Killed by his own creations. Papayanoupoulous - The Greek bartender at a bar the employees of Kessler frequent. Nicknamed "Papy." Mrs. Mathou - Mathou's wife who divorced him. Rosalind Mathou - Mathou's daughter. Sunbather - A woman sunbathing on a roof in Detroit. Swallowed whole by a giant praying mantis. Colonel Paul G. Cassidy - A US military officer who tasks Belkin with killing Mathou when the latter refuses to cease his experiments with giant insects.

THE ORIGIN OF THE CRABS by Guy N. Smith Freddie Law - A poacher. Killed by a crab, dragged into the water and completely dismembered. Crabs - Giant crabs which have invaded the Scotland and live in Loch Merse. All but one, who sinks into the bog with McKechnie, survive and move on towards Shell Island. Bruce McKechnie - The laird of Cranlarich and a wealthy landowner. Dies along with one of the crabs as they sink into quicksand. Jock Rouse - McKechnie's gamekeeper. Killed by a crab. Joe Kinlet - The assistant gamekeeper. He becomes the new gamekeeper after Rouse's death. Later killed by the crabs. Reverend Angus Dalglish - A local priest. James McKechnie - Bruce McKechnie's brother. He was shot and killed by Rouse so Bruce could gain control of the family estate. MacPherson - Another man murdered by Rouse for Bruce McKechnie. He was forced to walk into a bog where he sank to his death. Ferguson - Another man murdered by Rouse on McKechnie's orders. Rouse drowned him in Loch Merse. Blacklaw - The owner of the Royal Stag, a local pub. Christine Blacklaw - The landlord's daughter, who serves as a spy for McKechnie as well as his girlfriend. When John Ryland comes looking for his brother, McKechnie has Christine spy on him. Killed by the crabs. Phil Ryland - A hunter attending McKechnie's get-together. Killed by a crab that drags him underwater and cuts off his head. Paul Barrett - Another hunter attending the get-together. Killed by a crab after it rips off his legs. Toby - A cocker spaniel used as a hunting dog by Ryland and Barrett. Killed by a crab. Canvers - McKechnie's manservant. Dies of a heart attack after he and Joe Kinlet get attacked by the crabs. Colonel Sanders - A retired military officer attending McKechnie's get-together. Chief Inspector Broomhall - A police inspector from Dumfries, investigating the deaths of Ryland and Barrett. Frogman - A police diver who finds Barrett's shotgun in the loch. Burly Sergeant - A K-9 officer tasked with husing tracking dogs to find the missing hunters' remains. John Ryland - Phil Ryland's brother. He tries to get to the bottom of his brother's mysterious disappearance. Killed by the crabs. Sandy Cline - An old shepherd. Found dead in bed by Detective Inspector Page, apparently of natural causes. Chauffeur - The driver of one of McKechnie's rich guests' Rolls-Royces. Mrs. Mudie - The cleaner and Clanlarich Estate. Killed by a crab after she faints. Maggie - The cook at Clanlarich Estate. She commits suicide by stabbing herself with a knife rather than let the crabs kill her. Elsie - A housekeeper at Clanlarich Estate. Killed by one of the crabs after it slices off her nose. Cat - A tabby cat kept by McKechnie to help control vermin. Eaten by a crab. Detective Inspector Page - An inspector serving under Broomhall. Don Phinney - A reporter for Record. He writes a story about the crabs, but claims Nessie is responsible. Scientists - Two men who descend into Loch Merse in a bathysphere looking for the crabs. They don't find anything. Martin Bryant - A cryptid hunter who comes to Loch Merse looking for Nessie due to Phinney's story. Killed by the crabs when they attack his car on the road. Roland Tapper - An acquaintance of Martin's. Milton Hogarth - The owner of Hogarth Industries who raids his own company and runs away to live as Ralph Johnson. Killed by the crabs after going to Shell Island. Ken Jenkinson - Hogarth's business partner.
THE RATS (WIP) by James Herbert Professor William Bartlett Schiller - A scientist who brought the new species of killer rats back from New Guinea. Dies under mysterious circumstances. Mrs. Schiller - Professor Schiller's wife. Goes insane and is committed to an asylum. Grocer - The man who delivered food to the Schiller house. Henry Guilfoyle - An alcoholic former salesman. Turned to binge drinking after his homosexual affair with a co-worker became public and he lost his job. The rats' first victim. Francis - Nicknamed Frank. Guilfoyle's co-worker who he has an affair with. Quits his job due to his fellow salesmen's homophobic bullying. Ms. Robson - A secretary at Guilfoyle's office. Francis' Mother - Francis' mother who upon discovering her son is gay angrily puts an end to his relationship with Henry Guilfoyle. Rats - A vicious new breed of black rat illegally imported by Professor Schiller. Led by a two-heaed mutant rat creature, they're unafraid of humans and carry a deadly disease. Most of them are killed by the government and military. Harris - An art teacher who is determined to improve the lives of his mostly poor and working class students. Develops a vendetta against the rats after they kill one of his students. Barney - One of Harris' students who shows great promise. Keogh - Another one of Harris' students. After being bitten by a rat, he dies from the deadly disease they carry. Karen Blakely - A baby who is the rats' second human victim. Shane - The Blakelys' dog. Dies in a doomed attempt to protect Karen. Paula Blakely - Karen's mother. In trying to save her daughter from the rats, she gets bitten and dies from the disease. Mike Blakely - Karen's father. Doctor - A doctor at London Hospital who attends to both Keogh and Paula. Mary Kelly - A homeless Irish woman. A mentally unbalanced nymphomaniac whose efforts to devote herself to God went awry. She gets eaten by the rats along with several other homeless people. Priest - Mary's priest in Ireland, who tried to set her on "the correct path" and was extremely judgemental about her promiscuity. Father Aloysius - Another priest who tries to help Mary, however ineffectually. Father Mahar - A priest in Dublin who was sympathetic to Mary but ultimately didn't know what to do with her. One of the only people who realized she was mentally unbalanced and not sinful. Margaret Malone - A woman whose husband has an affair with Mary. Tom Malone - Margaret's husband who has a sordid affair with Mary. Deirdre Finnegan - A friend of Margaret's who told her about Tom's affair with Mary. Timothy Patrick - Yet another man Mary slept with. The two actually have a relationship together. He ultimately moves to London where he finds a job as a construction worker, before dying after enlisting in the British Army when a tank accidentally runs him over. Salvation Army Officer - A man from the Salvation Army who tries to help Mary but ultimately gives up. Myer - One of Mary's fellow homeless people. An aggressive man, he attacks her to steal her bottle of booze before falling victim to the rats. Judy - Nicknamed Jude. Harris' girlfriend. Headmaster Norton - The headmaster of the school where Harris teaches. When the rats attack the school, he risks his life to protect the students, and is bitten and gets the disease. Group Secretary Tunstall - London Hospital's group secretary, who informs Harris of the disease the rats are carrying. Under-Secretary Foskins - An official with the Ministry of Health and one of Harris' allies. He is fired after ending up as a scapegoat for the government's failure to stop the rats, and dies in an attempt to kill the vermins' leader at the old Schiller house. Dr. Strackley - A doctor at London Hospital. Albert Ferris - A friendly exterminator employed by the Ratkill pest control company. Another one of Harris' allies. Gets killed by the rats while trying to find their lair. Old Woman - An elderly woman who tries to save Ferris from the rats, but is attacked and bitten by them, getting the disease. Neighbor - One of the old woman's neighbors who calls an ambulance for her. Workman - A construction worker who along with several other workmen manages to fend the rats off, though not in time to save Ferris or the old woman. Harris has to talk him out of pursuing the rodents. Linda Crossley - An old flame of Harris'. Aunt Hazel - Judy's aunt, who lives in Walton. Sallow Round-Shouldered Man - A tourist encountered by Harris in Walton. Ilda - The round-shouldered man's companion, possibly his wife. Her name is actually possibly "Hilda" and is written phonetically as "'Ilda" due to her husband's accent. Mervyn - An American tourist. Immogene - Mervyn's companion, possibly his wife. Dave Moodie - A subway employee in the Underground. Killed by the rats. Gerry - Dave's girlfriend, who he was considering breaking up with. Errol Johnson - Another subway employee who has his eye on becoming station-master. Attacked by the rats, he runs into the path of an oncoming train and gets hit by it. Driver - Also referred to as the motor-man. Tries and fails to stop in time to avoid hitting Errol. Seeing the rats that Errol was running from, he doesn't stop at that station, saving himself and most of his passengers. Passenger - A man aboard the first motor-man's train. Dies when a rat leaps through the speeding train's window and attacks him, biting him and giving him the disease. Station-Master Green - The man in charge of the Shadwell subway station. Dave and Errol's boss. Locks himself in a cupboard to hide from the rats, but they get in and kill him. Jenny Cooper - A passenger on another train passing through the Underground. When the rats attack, she is led to safety by Henry Sutton. Marion - A friend of Jenny's who likes to brag about all the boyfriends she's had. Violet Melray - Another passenger on the second train. She also survives the rat attack thanks to Henry's quick thinking. George Melray - Violet's husband. Albert Melray - George's brother. Henry Sutton - A solicitor's clerk riding the same train as Jenny and Violet. Becomes an unlikely hero by managing to lead the two to safety when the rats attack the train. Driver - The motor-man of the second train. Presumably killed by the rats. Guard - A security guard aboard the train. Presumably killed by the rats. Businessman - A passenger on the train. Presumably killed by the rats. Man in Bowler-Hat - A passenger on the train. Killed by the rats. Fat Woman - A passenger on the train. Killed by the rats. Young Boy - A passenger on the train. Killed by the rats. Police Sergeant - A police officer who responds to the attack on the train. He later helps Harris defend the school from attack, but gets bitten and gets the disease. Carlos - One of Harris' students. Carol - One of Harris' students. Morris - One of Harris' students. Toomey - One of Harris' students. Johnson - One of Harris' students. Smith - One of Harris' students. Cutts - One of Harris' students. Mr. Ainsley - A teacher. He takes care of Norton and the police sergeant after they get bitten. Mr. Jenkins - The school's caretaker. Killed by the rats. Deputy-Headmaster Grimble - The ambitious and unpleasant deputy-headmaster of the school. Tries and fails to take charge during the rat attack after Norton is injured. Chief-Inspector - A police official who coordinates the efforts to rescue the schoolchildren and faculty from the rats. Fireman - A fire fighter who manages to get inside the school and helps Harris fight off the rats. Stephen Howard - A scientist working at the Ministry of Health. He suggests letting the native brown rats fight and kill the invading black ones. He becomes yet another of Harris' allies in his fight against the rats. Researcher - Another scientist. He suggests poisoning several animals such as cats and dogs in the hopes that the rats will eat them and die. Scientist - Another scientist employed at the Ministry of Health. Agrees with the second researcher about poisoning the rats with infected cats and dogs. Another Researcher - A scientist who says it's too risky to infect the brown rats with a disease because they might spread it to humans. Bio-Chemist - A scientist who has an idea for a virus to kill the rats with. Borough Surveyor - A man who assists Harris and Foskins in their efforts to kill the rats using poison. Rosemary Foskins - Foskins' estranged wife. Driver - A Ratkill employee driving the van used by Harris and Howard. Bitten and infected by the rats.
