Many of our readers will be familiar with today's guest author from Dr. Terror's Black Books Of Horror, to which he has contributed three stories, Flitching's Revenge, Ben's Best Friend, and, most recently, the ghoulish-hilarious mad scientist throwback, Deeper Than Dark Water. Gary Power is Superintendent of Neurosciences at Hurstwood Park Neurological centre in Haywards Heath, a demanding position which affords him little spare time to concentrate on his horror fiction, though we understand from Gary's Strange World that his several works in progress include "an epic occult/dark fantasy 2 book novel" and "an anthology in the grand tradition of Amicus and Hammer." Today's story, The Road To Hell, first appeared in Sean Wright's When Graveyard's Yawn (Crowswing Books, 2006). Illustration: Chrissie Demant Meet Anthony Lerrom, disgraced MP turned obnoxious phone-in presenter. See, you're liking him already! Attachments:The Road to Hell.pdf (122.17 KB)

Well done, Dem. Some great treats for us all in the advent calendar and I am looking forward to finding out what else is hiding behind the doors yet to be opened :-D. Nothing to do with me, Rip. We've some very kind-hearted friends and readers is all. People like ... Last week we meet some highly stressed bus drivers and conductors, today it's the turn of yet another criminally undervalued public servant, the Postman (see above). As Reggie Oliver points out in his introduction to For Those Who Dream Monsters (Mortbury Press, 2013), there is really no such thing as a typical Anna Taborska story. The unremittingly bleak Bagpuss and the supernatural sex comedy Dirty Dybbuk, for example, are so worlds apart, it is hard to believe they're the work of the same young woman. Fish is .... something else again! Having raved about Monsters over recent weeks, there's little more for me to say other than make sure you beg, steal, borrow, conjure or, preferably, buy a copy. Absolutely, Dem. Thank you to all those kind enough to give permission for their stories to be included, and also thank you to you, Dem, for putting it all together. There are a number of authors that I am reading for the first time and, without exception, I have enjoyed all their contributions.

Yesterday we ran a story from an outstanding début collection. Today we've one from an outstanding début collection that wasn't. After years of close shaves and near misses, David A. Riley's malevolent Lurkers In The Abyss were finally unveiled Halloween 2013 via Shadow Publications, almost a year to the day after Hazardous Press launched the five novella Grudge End gazetteer, His Own Mad Demons. With a novel, The Return, published by Blood Bound Books last month and the revival of his Parallel Universe imprint, it all adds up to a phenomenally productive eighteen months for our man from Beyond. The diligent reader will note that this is the third story from Lurkers ... to have graced our calendars, but don't rely on anyone stringing Vault out for another fourteen years past its sell-by date to acquire the rest. Enough. Time to hand you over to the creepy kid in the back seat; the one with the chubby, rotting .... Attachments:SOFT LITTLE FINGERS.pdf (113.68 KB)

Click here to watch today's guest author in action"He's so charming it's alarming! He's got style, watch him smile!"The lovely Lady Probert has already graced our calendar with the beautifully sombre "And May All Your Christmases ...", today it is the turn of her other half, the peerless Lord John Llewellyn Probert, Vaults resident Dr. Phibes - yes, that' will be him you can hear in the background, bashing out a jaunty requiem on the pipe-organ to drown the screams of his victims.. Fortunately for us all, a recent British Fantasy 'Best Novella' award for the super The Nine Deaths Of Dr. Valentine has done nothing to curb his Lordship's mischief, and we have it from the great man himself that he'll not be pursuing despicable respectability any day soon! Today's story originally appeared in Lord P.'s masterly début collection, Coffin Nails, from Ash Tree Press (bloody hell! was it really five years ago? !!). Gather around, my beloved ones. Throw another elderly relative on the fire and down a stiff mulled wine. Let your kindly Uncle John instruct you in the strange and terrifying ways of the Llybcrach .... This has been the best year so far, and there's still some days left!
I am really digging Chrissie's illustrations, such a keen eye and a great talent. Anthony Lerrom looks very much like David Mellor at the top of the page (Gary Power's story). Wondering if MP Lerrom is a Chelsea fan? (possibly my only football related piece of trivia ever, although I did once get a question right at a pub quiz about the Scottish '78 World Cup team. My Dad nearly choked to death on his lager.)
