Just finished my copy; I wasn't expecting such a small (rather adorable) hardcover.
Dog - Reece Shearsmith
The narrator's younger brother Elliott had gone blind after contracting toxocariasis from accidentally touching dog poop. The two of them are out for revenge, both on dogs and their (elderly female) owners.
A Spider Remember- Sara Pascoe
The narrator's boyfriend becomes paranoid about spiders, with good cause as it turns out.
The Patient - Mitch Benn
A great story about a doctor and the room in his basement. Any more details would spoil the fun...
For Everyone's Good - Al Murray
The narrator appears to be Mary Evans, daughter of a famous family and incarcerated in a Sussex asylum in 1899. I didn't care of this one much.
A View From A Hill - Stewart Lee
Begun and ended with a report by "Detective Inspector Montague R. James", it's the story of a writer trying to write two pieces for publication just before Christmas, and the old friend he tries to help out. Just ok.
Most Out of Character - Robin Ince
The main character seems to have become a cannibal. Not sure where this was supposed to go, or why.
Possum - Matthew Holness
I probably missed some important nuance(s) in this story. It's well written and creepy, but I really didn't care what happened to the narrator or his puppet, Possum.
For Roger - Katy Brand
One of the better stories, Roger decides to inspect his attic for signs of mice infestation. Instead he finds a mysterious notebook that appears to predict the future. His future.
Woolboy - Richard Herring
The narrator leaves London for "the joys of the countryside"; in this case, Hertfordshire. While wandering around, he finds a house in the forest with a strange wool doll sitting in the window. A well-done tale of unease.
Halloween - Tim Key
Fun, and only half a page with footnote.
Fixed - Rufus Hound
Someone or something slowly comes to life. Or not quite, as it all seems quite painful. I think I got it, from the ending, but who knows? Maybe I didn't....
In Loving Memory of Nerys Bag - Danielle Wheeler
Nerys Bag works in the office of a homeless shelter. She doesn't seem very well adjusted, which could be due to the fact that a ouija board predicted the day of her death back in high school.
Anthemoessa - Phill Jupitus
Steve has recently started work in the Mergers and Acquisitions department. At the end of a drunken, coke-filled (not the soft drink) night out with the boys, he notices two alluring women and begins to follow them.
The Dream of Nightmares - Michael Legge
Gwen's husband Alf talks in his sleep. About missing persons and sometimes murder....
All Warm Inside - Neil Edmond
Another story of a man who wakes up and discovered he recently became a cannibal.
Filthy Night - Charlie Higson
Hastings "the greatest British horror movie star for 50 years" arrives at Mark and Maria Wallace's house, having interviewed him when he appeared at Dorkfest - oops, I mean, "Darkfest"
. A delicious mixture of fact and fiction. Just. wonderful.
