Boris Dolgov ( Weird Tales, May 1950 (UK Nov. 1950) Either i'm looking for info in all the wrong places or Boris Dolgov is something of a mystery man. Just about the most insightful snippet i've been able to dredge is that he was a friend and sometime collaborator of Hannes Bok, so good thing his artwork is more than capable of talking for itself. From 1941, through to the magazine's demise in 1954, Boris provided six cover paintings and scores of interior designs for Weird Tales. Here's a sample to be getting along with. Robert Bloch, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Weird Tales, May 1949 Robert Bloch, Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper, Weird Tales, July 1943 Algernon Blackwood, Roman Remains, Weird Tales, March 1948. Seabury Quinn, Clair De Lune, Weird Tales, Nov. 1947 Robert Bloch, The Bat Is My Brother, Weird Tales, Nov. 1944

Great stuff, Dem!
Dolgov´s art remind me of those creepy animation films of yesterday. There is this weird off-kilter quality in the drawings.
This Jack the Ripper is great. True, it has nothing whatsoever to do with a Whitechapel atmosphere and more with a Halloween prop, still it is creepy with the puppet houses in the background.

glad you like, andy. i'm working on the sequel: 'Everything you already knew about Vincent Napoli'. Dolgov's colour work is gorgeous but if anything I prefer the b/ w interior designs which could elevate some average stories (not talking about the five above, all of which i like though Blackwood doesn't seem to have shared my enthusiasm for Roman Remains). will post some more as i find/ scan 'em'
