Hi Asenath; from my understanding the Whitehead volume may be a few stories short of complete, but will include the bulk of his weird fiction.
thank you for joining and i hope you enjoy your time here. i'm sure you'll find a number of our readers share your literary tastes!

Caterpillars is a story that always sticks in my mind, I think one of his best

I've read these below so far. I stared swapping stories with Whithead but in the end decided to leave Benson til after Whitehead. Very impressed so far.

Bit late for 2012, but any news on A M Burrage or - gulp - H Russell Wakefield maybe showing up on the Wordsworth imprint?
(I could've missed something in one of the other threads that clarifies this, but it all seemed to tail off in about 2009...)
Silly question, probably, but couldn't help wondering.

I wouldn't hold my breath for a Wakefield Wordsworth if I were you, Matt. Not sure how they were/ are getting along with Burrage's estate, but will try find out if there's been any progress.

Fantastic, cheers! And thanks also for clearing that up.
Pretty much as expected, esp. with Wakefield. Of course, there are Kindle editions of some of his stuff - not much - but dammit, I like those Wordsworth M&S paperbacks: the introductions, the colour scheme, blood droplets on the spine, the peculiar artwork, the slightly pulpy feel (both cheapness and texture - very apt)...
...shame there's no smiley for "not surprised, but still a bit thwarted in a minor way"... ah well.

Ash Tree Press put out the complete stories of Burrage and Wakefield as e-books. They still retain the copyright, so I doubt Wordsworth would ever be able to publish them.
I just bought both collections a few days ago... 9 e-books in total i think. It's a godsend really, because for the past few years, I've been desperate to get my hands on Burrage and Wakefield's ghost stories in whatever format is available.
(However, after reading a few of them in one go, I'm starting to grow a little tired of the "gentle ghost story". Frankly, I have my eye on some outrageous Weird Menace e-books from the depraved minds of Hugh B Cave, Wyatt Blassingame, Arthur Leo Zagat and Arthur J Burks... Next purchase!)

I like those Wordsworth M&S paperbacks: the introductions, the colour scheme, blood droplets on the spine, the peculiar artwork, the slightly pulpy feel (both cheapness and texture - very apt)... They've since dropped the skull and bloodstains in favour of a classy deep red design. See the eye-catching gallery on the Wordsworth Editions website. Have prepared an email for Derek to go tomorrow, so hope to have news of the 2013 additions shortly. I believe this is the contents listing for the Wordsworth EF Benson collection. 54 stories in total: Bill, i've not picked up a copy yet, but if you can confirm that's the listing then will give it a thread.
