Less than a month to go so a reminder that the Zardoz Pulp & Paperback Fair approaches (details above). There's usually a Paperback Fanatic/ vault contingent skulking around the stalls looking dodgy, but who exactly that will comprise on Nov. 6th is anyone's guess. To date we've had at least two "i'm definitely going!"'s, Milan is almost certain to have a stall, but last minute cancellations have been a commonplace ever since Franklin's gran's greenhouse blew down on the eve of the 2007 shambles. Anyway, if you can make it, its only £3 to get in. Last year's Halloween fair is widely held as the best attended and most enjoyable of recent years and of course, there's plenty opportunity to socialise when event spills over into the pub without the worry of ambush by small press banditi you never heard of pestering you to shell out on their entire back catalogue and nominate them for this or that prestigious award in the process.
later; In light of events which were unknown to me at time of posting, i've amended a certain word in final line so as not to cause unnecessary offence.

Still have every intention of making the fair- pass stamped by Mrs Fanatic, spending money siphoned off the child benefit payment- just a wee reminder to you slacker types as I hope to bump into a few of you!

You can't believe how depressing it is living abroad. I just discovered another bookshop (the second one in seven years) in the next town. About fifty shelves of secondhand fantasy, sf and Horror (all in German) Three small shelves with English books. If I see another Jane Austen I'll kill the book dealer. I'm like a ghost at German flea markets, seeing hundreds of books, none that I can read wailing pitifully to myself.

Hi! I'm also here in Germany (Nuremberg) and our local Red Cross has a used book store with 3 Book cases with english language books. You can ocassionaly get lucky. I've come to depend on Ebay, Zardoz, cold tonnage, Abebooks and flea Markets. It's pretty frustrating though.

I found an oxfam shop in Munich town center that was fairly good. there was also a bookshop run by an American in Mainz. Apart from that not too good.

looks like i won't know for definite until the night before, but i'm hopeful. i'd rather have pulphack in my ear about Meg Richardson, Amy Turtle, Benny & the Crossroads-soft porn connections all afternoon than be moping around indoors, especially if the fair is as much fun as last year's very well-attended Halloween bash.
For those who are thinking of coming along, the best way to avoid contact with anyone suspected of vault activities, is to arrive after one o'clock, because come 12.30, it's likely we'll have lurched off to the Wetherspoon's pub on the High Street. Otherwise, there's a table where you pay your £3 entrance fee, so if you see a right ropey looking bunch hanging out around there at twelve, chances are, that's us. If i make it, will pop back at one and two to check for any stragglers.

we'd leave it as late as 12 before heading to the wetherpoons? my plan is a quick whizz round the tables and then off to blow the remaining cash on guiness and cider for justin!

Are you going to tell mrs pulphack "it was all his fault!" as usual? Please feel free, because i'm already rehearsing my "and then mr p insisted we all join him in the pub" speech. actually, i'm going to use that whether i make it or not. I'll be there - wearing mostly black... i hope that doesn't include a flimsy black weskit from Top Shop - we'll clash!

I can confirm I'll be going, just bought my train ticket (though sod's law as usual, train to Ingatestone, then replacement rail to Newbury Park - I'd better get looking at underground maps ).
