Stephen Jones posted this obituary for L. H. Maynard on social media very recently:
British supernatural writer L. (Leonard) H. (Hugh) Maynard died in hospital on November 11, aged 70. He had been suffering from a number of medical conditions. Maynard’s first collection, in collaboration with his school friend M.P.N. Sims, was Shadows at Midnight: Ten Ghost Stories, published by William Kimber in 1979 and reprinted in an expanded edition by Sarob Press twenty years later. Maynard and Sims collaborated on several further collections, including Echoes of Darkness: Supernatural Tales, Selling Dark Miracles, The Secret Geography of Nightmare, Incantations and Falling Into Heaven. The pair also collaborated on the novels Shelter, Double Act, Demon Eyes, Nightmare City, Stronghold, Stillwater and the “Department 18” series, starting in 2008 with Black Cathedral. Maynard and Sims co-edited the small press magazine Enigmatic Tales (1998–2000) and the “Darkness Rising” series of nine anthologies (2001–05). On his own, Maynard wrote the series of “DCI Jack Callum Mysteries” and “Harry Beck Thrillers”, along with the collections Beyond the Curtain: Uncanny Tales of the Theatre, Waking Nightmares: Tales of Haunted Places and Objects and Dark Souls: Tales of Unsettling People.

Thanks for letting us know the sad news, Steve. My condolences to his friends and family. By coincidence, I'd just reread Shadows at Midnight a few days ago & thoroughly enjoyed it again.
