I have developed a fondness for The Dunwich Horror. For all its flaws, I think it's a fun movie. It really has very little to do with Lovecraft, however. The Curse of the Crimson Altar is fun, as well, but has even less to do with HPL. H. Crimson Altar is fun, especially Virginia Wetherell, but I still don't get why they included HPL in the credits. Apart from marketing of course. The connection to Dreams in the Witch House is, well, there is a dream, a witch and a house. Hm, on second thought and in this age of re-imagining - Orwell would have loved this newspeak term - mania, this has more to do with the original than a lot of movies and tv series.

I have developed a fondness for The Dunwich Horror. I watched it recently and still liked it. That 80s Colour Out of Space, The Curse, isn't too bad. Pity At the Mountains of Madness never got made - at least Del Toro has some idea of what Lovecraft is about.

It is worth remembering that to date there have been no good Lovecraft adaptations. Re-Animator (1985)? OK, it's not a "faithful" adaptation, but that doesn't stop it being good in it's own way.

From Beyond - also with the great Ms Crampton - is also relative faithful to the HPL Story. Except the S/M of course. Which doesn't hurt, though.

Just arrived, the BD box Bloody Terror - The Shocking Cinema of Norman J. Warren. I haven't sample the quality of the BD yet, but the package is very well done. The extras are overwhelming. (I hope, the print is readable) There is also a 116 page booklet included. One chapter compares the NEL novelisation of Inseminoid by "Larry Miller" with the movie. Included are Terror, Prey, Inseminoid, Bloody New Year and Satan's Slave.

The last time I watched it was on a poor VHS tape. The improvement was phenominal. That picture looks absolutely superb in HD, though definitely not for the squeamish.

I'm rarely dissatisfied by Britsploitation in general, it may have been limited by censorship compared with most other countries, but for me generally makes up for it in eccentricity, and then the occasional real shocker hits all the more for the surprise.

I like watching Mark Wiens, who is basically a world food tourist. He’s very enthusiastic, kind, and open-minded. He seems to have had a lot of experience living in different countries already, so it doesn’t have the usual feel of “white guy gets shown local delicacy and is startled and grossed out by it”. He just goes whole-hog into every eating experience. I also subscribed to some other youtube travel channels . I love watching vlogs about new places and decide where I would like to go next.

I found Satan's Slave really disappointing. I'd never heard of the director but saw a still of Michael Gough in his ritual regalia, and that was what made me order the DVD (it was part of a set and was quite cheap). The script was kind of dull and there wasn't nearly enough Gough. There was a lot of female nudity and at least one softcore lesbian ritual scene but I am not the intended audience for such things. The "twist" ending struck me as banal.
Hopefully, your mileage will vary.
This director also did a film (which presumably is in your set) about two women being stalked by an evil "extraterrestial" who I recall looking as if he was a bloke in some kind of puppy bondage mask with cheap fangs glued on. I laughed through the trailer on you tube but felt that was enough bang for the virtual buck.
cheers, H.

It concerns a love triangle involving a lesbian couple living in the countryside and a flesh-eating alien.
