Got sent this to review by Amazon and I shall surely be passing it on to my gruesome offspring; it's excellent so far. The story revolves around a book so dangerous, so noxious, that if it gets out all hell breaks loose. All the copies printed were nailed up in chests and left in an abandoned house. Along come a gang of thieves and bingo! By chapter 7, we've got hundreds of social network nitwits (all under 20, except for escorting parents and older siblings) involved in lethal mob panic at a faked-up celebrity rave, and exploding cars. Ripping fun. It's certainly got me intrigued; I'll let you know if it holds up to the end.

My word, but this gets grim; certainly did keep the pace up, and then hits you with a 'to be continued'. Thing is, for once I didn't feel conned that a story that could have easily been tied up in one novel has been spun out to wring money out of the reader; there is enough meat in this tale to warrant a trilogy at least. I won't go into too much detail, this one is a plot best unravelled at the author's pace, but it really is a cracking read - keep it for the older kids, though (and us juvenile adults, of course). I think even more mature under-10s would be a bit shaken by this. Especially the school scenes.

curses! i'm so grateful to you for putting me on the Horowitz Horror trail, it looks like i'll have to lay my sanity on the line and pay another visit to the ideas store, see if i can hunt this down. truth be told, i had a furtive peak in there on Thursday and they've a copy of Zombie Apocalypse. The word on the street is they've also acquired a Mammoth Book of Wolf Men but this one must be filed under 'unsubstantiated rumour' until i've seen it with my own eyes.
