HP Saucecraft - kindly remove yourself from my head! Most of your list I've either read, watched and loved or have on my pending pile. Wonder if somebody split the brain between the two of us...

I've read a shedload of books from horror to historical and frankly I can't remember them all from this year. Notable books , THE RESURRECTED - Guy N Smith CITIES OF THE DEAD - Michael Paine THE CASE OF CHARLES DEXTER WARD - H P Lovecraft THE HAND OF DRACULA - Robert Lory VIKING'S DAWN - Henry Treece THE HORNED HELMET - Henry Treece THE HUNGRY MOON - Ramsey Campbell THE SKULL - Shaun Hutson 'appy New Year Vaulters... KC I'm not sure how the respective authors would take it, but full marks for selecting novels by both Ramsey Campbell and Shaun Hutson, KC. Next time anyone asks me to define what Vault's about, i'm just gonna direct the slob to this thread, because the recommendations are all over the map, and delightfully so. Also, charming photos of Steve, Mrs. Steve and crustacean friend provides irrefutable evidence that the hardcore Vault guys actually know some girls. Will attempt to track down a Henry Treece and recommend you try Anthony Horowitz's horror stories and Chris Priestly snappy 'Tales Of Terror' series as young adult horror collections to savour. The going can get surprisingly grim in Horowitz Horrors while Mr. Priestley's man-eating slugs on the rampage shocker Nature in Tales Of Terror From The Black Ship is screaming out for radio/ comic strip adaptation - the bride tells me i was lost in a world of my own with a big smile on my face reading that one (relax - she could see my hands were holding onto the book the whole time). Ellen Datlow is something of a serial offender in the worst category as i gave up on vampire fiction - and, for the most part, life itself - after exposure to her A Whisper of Blood from 1991. Needless to say, those in the know raved about that one, too, but if it were not for Karl Wagner's The Slug and a few others, i'd have charity shopped it years ago. Her introduction should have served as a warning even if the tasteful cover artwork failed to set alarm bells ringing. "In Blood Is Not Enough, I wanted to extend the boundaries of what a vampire is - expand the bloodsucker image into the concept of vampirism. I believe I succeeded. With A Whisper of Blood, I had intended see just how far I could take the concept without any actual bloodsucking. But my editor, and certain avid fans of the vampire-as-entity who had read and enjoyed the first volume, expressed dismay that I planned to include no actual vampires. So . . . here and there among these metaphorical bloodsuckers lurks a vampire or two. You'll know them when you see them. Admittedly, some of the stories are a stretch ...." No fooling. Having said that, i enjoyed Blood Is Not Enough!

HP Saucecraft - kindly remove yourself from my head! Most of your list I've either read, watched and loved or have on my pending pile. Wonder if somebody split the brain between the two of us... It's the brain that wouldn't die..... I missed one out on the film list: The Other - Really enjoyed this one, subtle & chilling. Glad I didn't pick up the uk disc & managed to get hold of the R1 instead (widescreen instead of fullscreen), yet to read the book. & I probably should know better, but went picking up some Film 2000 discs, amongst others from my local 99p store : Number One - Looks like this one might be worth watching, fairly decent cast - Alfred Molina, Ray Winstone, Ian Dury & Phil Daniels Massacre In Rome - Richard Burton war film Street Racer - Looks like The Asylum's rip-off of Speed Racer Poor White Trash (2000) - Nothing to do with the 50s film Shower Of Blood Sleepless Nights Blood Dancers Vampire Resurrection - Vampire films from Film 2000, this may not be a good idea Hellman: Reign Of Death - Anyone's guess wether it's Film 2000's version of Hellboy 48 Weeks Later (AKA Gangs Of The Dead) - Zombie film retitled as a cash in.

Blimey! Good haul HP . Number One does indeed sound interesting. On the Ian Dury front, I recently watched Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll - Serkis does a good job, but like most Brit Music Bios it's fairly depressing. I foolishly picked up 48 Weeks Later but haven't summoned up the energy/courage to watch it yet. I've seen Shower Of Blood - it's ...er...not very good, but the Dracula character's appearance accompanied on the soundtrack by Roll Out The Barrel is a little startling. If'n you want to watch a truly awful 'modern' Vampire flick, you can't get much worse than Dracula 3000 (Dracula In Space) - despite a desperate cameo from Udo Kier, it is truly abysmal.

Oh, I don't know, franklin - I thought Razor Blade Smile was pretty bloody awful. Or does a 1970s piece count? Because if so, the Australian atrocity The Thirst has got to take the prize. David Hemmings must have really, really needed the money.

Hee! I love Razor Blade Smile. It's delirious low budget tosh - and Eileen Daley is (ahem) sweetley pretty. Lem - have you seen The Witches Hammer? It's a lower-budget rip-off of Razor Blade Smile.

I've seen Shower Of Blood - it's ...er...not very good, but the Dracula character's appearance accompanied on the soundtrack by Roll Out The Barrel is a little startling. I think it has just moved up the to watch list now, Franklyn As for not being very good, I'm sort of expecting that, I'm a serial offender on the Film 2000 front. One of the worst of theirs was called Goth - what the hell it had to do with it, I don't know - sub death metal (& i'm not talking black metal) with overdone make up does not make for goth. But the film's Director, Brad Sykes (maker of crap film favourites Camp Blood 1 + 2 - not seen 3) & the cast admit as much, they don't really have a clue about goth they made it up. Also Raving Maniacs - this one is even worse, a glowing green rave drug turns people into zombies. Not as good as it sounds. But there are some trashy gems in their output : eg Dr. Moreau's House Of Pain & Lucky (alcoholic cartoonist runs over dog, dog comes back to life & talks to him, giving him ideas... but at a price. Though it's not a patch on Chris Morris's talking dog short, 'My Wrongs'). Lemming, we've finally found something we disagree on I did enjoy Razor Blade Smile & Thirst, though I won't disagree on the former being naff - it's just that low budget British, entertaining type of naff - Oh & Eileen Daly helps too

Hee! I love Razor Blade Smile. Me too I have seen Hollywood Blockbusters with a more lousy story. And of course there is always Angel of the Night aka Nattens Engel. More gore than From Dusk till Dawn Okay, this isn´t really true, but they try.

I think the worst film I saw last year had to be After.Life starring Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci. A more pointless, boring, depressing film I have yet to see.
