One CD is more difficult than one book.
The one DVD would probably be Goldfrapp's Wonderful Electric

My CD would contain a fine selection of hundreds of mp3s, as pretty much all dvd players can play them, can't they?
DVD, haven't got a clue, but it might have to be 2001:A Space Odyssey.

Your destination is a little known Polynesian island populated only by native ladies aged 18 to 24, and small furry fruits resembling anchovies. Oh well, that does it for me. I was about to give up anyway, but if there aren't any mature native men, then I'm definitely not going!

I'll import a few for you, now will you reconsider?

I've got an idea about the CD and DVD (just got to check the name/details of them before I post here) - those are quite easy - but the book is still causing me much grief ....

Ah yes, a nice bit of blatant nepotism. Well, Duff's choice of the Rev Awdry's complete Railway Stories is definitely in the running for winner here....

My choice of DVD was a double - so (rather than cheat) I'll have only the disc with the Somerset House gig.
And I've decided on my CD - it's In the Beginning - Peggy Lee (issued by Pavilion Records). An excellent selection including Why Don't You Do Right? (so sexy they put it in Jessica Rabbit's mouth!) And The Way You Look Tonight - possibly the best song ever written, and never performed better. It begins Some day - but Peggy Lee made the Some into a line all to itself. Simply brilliant!
Whittling my approx 2000 disc CD collection down to just one was tough - but this is it.

Whittling my approx 2000 disc CD collection down to just one was tough - but this is it. It's OK going through this as a presumptive exercise (and I can certainly empathise with your Peggy Lee choice) - but the test comes if one really had to do it for real. Mine would be Parsifal by Wagner. This is a single opera but takes more than one CD! I don't normally like opera, but this is more like pure music than an opera! My DVD would be Ken Russell's old black & white TV film on Elgar.

OK, sorry I took so long - been tied up with things in the real world for a while. Here are my choices: Music - Jethro Tull's "Living in the Past" double album from 1972. It's probably available on CD, but I've only got vinyl - so could I have a record player on our island please? Film - I don't think this has ever been released on DVD. In fact, I'm not sure it's ever been released on video, but I do have a home-made copy on video (so I'll need a video player too!). My choice would be Boris Karloff's best ever (in my opinion) film "The Black Room" (1936). Book - oh how I've agonised over this! In the end I've gone for Mervyn Peake's "Gormenghast" trilogy (I can have a trilogy, can't I?). It's high time I read this again as I haven't done so since my teens, and I'm sure I could lose myself quite easily in the strange world of Gormenghast once again. So, with these, and the native men Coral is going to supply me with, I should be happy for a while. But if Sean would let me have a few of his nice plants to put in my garden, I'd be even happier!

Oooh, nice choices! I really like J. Tull up to and including War Child but not much enjoyed them after that. Aqualung and Stand Up are well nifty.
I love the Gormenghast trilogy too - the only instance of me liking a 'trilogy' of everything. I read them in reverse order because I liked the cover of Titus Alone best. Gormenghast was my favourite although I believe the first book is generally considered to be his masterpiece? Great, great author - and artist.
Anyhow, seeing as how everybody else is getting preferential treatment with luxury items, I bagsy I get a solar-powered laptop so I can still be in Vault.

Just veering off topic a little, did you know they're doing their 40th anniversary tour this year - playing mostly songs from their earlier albums? Details at www.jtull.comI've already booked tickets to see them in TWO different venues! (so I definitely have to be back from exile before then!)

Just to veer a little bit further, I saw Jethro Tull live in Manchester about 1980, and must say they were very good. As far as the records are concerned, I'd go a little bit further than Dem and stick with them right through the 70s - up to and including Stormwatch. I'm afraid they lost me soon after that. They probably still put on a good show though, I reckon.
And I have to agree that the Gormenghast books are a great choice. Brilliant stuff & perfect desert island reading (in the sense of getting away from it all). You can get them all in one volume, so I'm sure Coral won't mind.
Oh, and for my luxury item, I'd like a banana...
