Found this on a spanish blog called Monster World and thought I´d share. Always interesting to see cover-art of different countrys. Thanks to the original scanner! This isn´t a book-cover, I gather. But I liked it And here is the link. If someone wants to browse through monstermovie-pics and all things eurotrash, this is a nice blog. Monster World

I could be wrong, but I think that last image is one of the props included in the H P Lovecraft Historical Society's terrific audio cd release of At the Mountains of Madness (a dramatisation done old-time radio style). Must have a rummage among me bits and see. The covers are terrific - the Spanish do love old HPL. Ever see Beyond Re-Animator?

Ever see Beyond Re-Animator? No. I just own the first two. I kind of missed the third one. I love 1. Combs with the syringe in hand, lovely Miss Crampton on the table It is hard to top this, and the sequel is okay. How is the third one? Worthwhile or more in Star Wars I territory? Historical Society's terrific audio cd release of At the Mountains of Madness (a dramatisation done old-time radio style). Here in Germany audio books are a big market. And while there isn´t much horror, it is growing. Even some of the old horror pulps gets the audio-treatment. We have at least two versions of Mountains in audio books. One is an abriged and dramatized version, which is okay, I guess - I am not a fan of radio-plays. The other is a reading of the full text by a small label called LPL Records. 6 hours ;D It is very good. Read by an actor who was the german voice of the vampire Spike on Buffy - here in Germany everything is dubbed on tv - , they did every major Lovecraft story in audio. And a lot of the shorter tales. A must have for any Lovecraft fan. It is kind of ironic how Lovecraft became a that big size of the market-place. I like to think he would be bemused.

Personally, I think Beyond Re-Animator is as good as the first; much better effects, and a pretty entertaining plot involving our dear Herbert as a trusty working in the sickbay in the prison where he's been banged up for life. Naturally he's been trying to work out what went wrong with the reagent, and when a fan of his work gets hired on as the new prison doctor it's back to business. Made in Spain, with most of the cast dubbed into English, it's got all the humour and gore of the original, and of course, Jeffrey Combs. Well worth it if you like Re-Animator.
I was wrong about the pic, doesn't seem to be the HPLHS prop, but after digging it out I listened to it again, so that was worthwhile. Pity you don't like radio drama (for me it has the best special effects ever), as those guys have done some truly wonderful dramas of mythos tales - The Dunwich Horror, The Shadow Out of Time, Mountains of Madness and The Shadow Over Innsmouth. They also made the silent movie Call of Cthulhu, and are doing a black and white version of Whisperer In Darkness. Great stuff. But the best reading from Lovecraft I ever heard was Jeffrey Combs reading the Herbert West stories; for me he will always be Herbert, but he manages to individualise all the voices and read a narrative as Herbert's unfortunate collaborator while still being West to a T. The CD is on sale at Arkham Bazaar's website.
