Happy birthday to the Vault.
I want to use this occasion for a personal thank you to Dem for all his work, nice words and general friendliness. Best forum on the net. Also a special thank you to Justin, pulphack, James Doig, ropardoe, ripper, and Cromagnonman. You know why! And the rest of the regulars!

"Facebook celebrates every other moment in our lives, so ‘memorialisation’ is a natural feature to add. It’s also a rather handy way of ensuring its two-billion-and-rising user base continues to grow. With estimates of 8,000 Facebookers dying each day, just when will the profiles of the living be outnumbered by those of the dead?"Dan Sung - The Ghost In Your Machine: Death in the social media ageGood news for the selfie-obsessed. A magnificently morbid article in Friday 18th's Metro reminds us that Death is no obstacle to maintaining a healthy on-line presence. Particularly like the sound of these chancers - and on our birthday, too. *Thank you, Mike, Scarlet, Dr. Proof, JoJo, and Andy, for your kindness*

I would agree with Jojo - like a true anarchist, Dem eschews the concept of leadership and has always pointed out that the vault moves in the directgion of its main contributors at any given time. And he's correct in this: but, without his diligence in maintaing the site, getting on the ass of those who seek to play silly buggers (why do I think of the strangely harmless but baffling Truegho at this point?)and generally maintaining the air of an amiable if seedy gentleman's club about the place (albeit one where women are on an equal footing - you KNOW what I meant when I said 'gentleman's club', I would hope), where disagreements and arguments are conducted civilly so that misunderstanding can be no more than that - well, there would be no Vault as we know it. And there is nowhere else like it. Which is excellent, and in some ways a bit sad, too.
Anyway, if the Vault is 13 years old, then I must has mis-spent a dozen of those on here. Good gravy, is this all there is to life?
S'alright, really, innit?

And as a wee present - here is a snapshot from the acknowledgements page of PAPERBACKS FROM HELL by Grady Hendrix (which is the book we've all been waiting for, trust me - if you want pics, I can oblige, got a review copy)

I've been awqay from the internet for the past week, hence missed all the celebrations.

Happy belated birthday wishes to the Vault. I've been awqay from the internet for the past week, hence missed all the celebrations. And from me. I'm on the wagon at the moment so my celebratory offer would be pitiful but you know how much you mean to us.

Regrettably we have no wagons here in the Stone Age. Not having got around as yet to inventing the wheel. But just wait until we do and we'll be falling off them like there's no tomorrow.
In the meantime, belated birthday wishes to the Vault and all hail the mighty Dem. "We are not worthy, we are not worthy!" Plans are afoot here to erect a towering Easter Island like effigy in his image and in recognition of his efforts. A card is on its way, but being made out of granite - like everything else here - it may take some delivering.
