S.E. Hinton - The Outsiders (Gollancz 1970, Lions 1972, copyright 1967)Saw this at a bootsale & it's nearly falling apart, but it was 20p & looked like something nel would have put out & that back cover blurb is a winner. I seem to remember lions being a children's book imprint, but perhaps not. The author has another book listed on the back, anyone know anything else about this one? Cover Scan:

As far as I know, this is a children's book - well, one for teenagers. I think Hinton was about 17 when she wrote it. She also wrote 'Rumblefish', another troubled teens opus.
Mind you, I only know about her as I recently discovered that her novel 'Hawke's Harbor' was originally written as a 'Dark Shadows' novel, but released with the characters' names changed (except for a few places where original character names were missed) when the publisher lost the DS license.

It's a good read considering the author was a teenager when she wrote it. It's been reprinted many times, with lots of different cover art, though I've never seen this one, I'll have to dig my copies out and post them up. Made into a film as well.
