Found an absolute CORKER of an arrow book today. Best cover ever!!
'Then out from that shapeless mass there came towards us a long tentacle. In colour, it was the same as the monster's body. In dimensions it confirmed to its vast measurements. It must have been a hundred feet in diameter. I soon had reason to know that its length was at least three miles. And it was like a single tentacle from a giant octopus except that at the extreme end was a large, circular...but I am at a loss for a word to describe it. It was neither hand nor paw, no webbed foot; it was a horrible combination of all three.'
"Christ!" I shouted blasphemously. "For God's sake, shift target, Number One, shoot at that damned thing, and hit it man, HIT IT!"
Another day, another boring list. Again, it always seemed to me that Arrow published hundreds of horror & supernatural titles, and if this list is anywhere near comprehensive - which, less face it, it won't be - there's a certain amount of truth to that. They did - but it was usually yet another new edition of their Dennis Wheatley and Bram Stoker titles!
The great thing about Arrow is that over this period they were responsible for more Satanist & Witchcraft titles, (be they fiction or "non-fiction") than even Mayflower, and their glorious photo-covers show that, commendably, they had a complete grasp of what an audience requires in a Black Sorcery book.

Main source for this was the late, great Bob Rothwell's brilliant Dennis Wheatley Info site. Lots more cover scans to follow if anyone wants 'em.
I see that Alex Hamilton, short-story writer and editor of Splinters and other anthologies, died last November. I didn't know that he also ghost-wrote Christopher Lee’s 1978 autobiography Tall, Dark and Gruesome.
