It was great to re-read "Caterpillars" and "The House with the Brick Kiln" and quite a few others today. I was really enjoying "Mr. Tilly's Seance" until it sputtered to an end.... I have read and enjoyed some of E. F. Benson's stories. He is inventive and original. But can also be formulaic. I have not returned to him much; his stories are too grim, and have a viciously cynical tone, I think. I love the cover of The Collected Ghost Stories. Those glowing green windows. Imagine going up there, slipping on the snow with wet shoes.
