Hello all. I should have introduced myself ages ago, after all, I joined up back in September.
Ok so I'm Ian, 40 years young and love reading horror and like many others I still get irritated by the lack of new horror in our bookshops.

Hello ian
it's not the lack of horror in bookshops that concerns me so much - lousy as it is, i've come to expect that - but the absence of anything but the big-hitters from libraries and the mass disposal of vintage paperbacks by charity shops who've somehow got it into their heads that people don't buy beat-up books or, indeed, anything published pre-2000.
anyhow, now i've cheered you up no end, thanks for joining and i hope you enjoy your time with us.

Thank you for the kind response Mr. Demonik. I too have despaired over this conspiracy of denying the public old paperbacks.
As for the charity shops, there are still a few independents dotted around the country who still keep a few gems but they are very hard to find nowadays, almost as hard to find as the old beat up books they stock.

Firstly, a big warm welcome to you ianw. I'm a newbie on this forum too. Although within the first few minutes of browsing through the threads on here I realised that I'd found my second home within this site!!!...No really! Anyway, I hear what you're saying about the lack of pulp horror novels out there these days. As the years go by, we're seeing less and less donning the dusty backroom shelves of our local charity shops. However...my wonderful partner took me to Hay-on-Wye today to celebrate me turning 30 (yep yep...I turned the big 'three-zero' today). She knows that I'm a ridiculous pulp horror collector and thought that this would be a nice surprise day out for me (she knows me so well). I'd never been there before, but I'm sure as hell going to be dabbling again in the future. Amongst other books, look at these little treasures I managed to nab on our little book buying excursion today: So, they're out there...just got to search for 'em. Or, get your perky behinds to Hay-on-Wye which truly is the second hand bookshop capital of the world....honestly! Right, I'm off to dance about the house singing 'happy birthday' to myself...

Well done I'm so not jealous. I've had most of those books you bought in the dim and distant past, yet they went for some reason or another. I've been re-collecting now for the past few months and I can't tell you just how hard it is trying to track down those books that used to be in every charity shop across Britain. Still, I'll get there. Hey Dreadlocksmile Happy birthday! (I've congratulated you already on this forum but one more won't hurt) Enjoy The Squirm BTW, it scared the crap out of me when I first read it!

My God, John Lymington! I picked this up at the Salvos store and read a couple of pages before dying of boredom. Maybe his short stories are better. Seeing the talk of Quatermass, here is Quatermass and the Pit, Penguin, 1960. A great read!

I enjoyed Lymington's novel Night of the Big Heat - admittedly I'm a fan of the Planet film production which helped. I'll probably try his The Night Spiders next. It goes without saying that Kneale is excellent.
