First edition Fortune Press 1934. This edition Simpkin Marshall 1936i194.photobucket.com/albums/z272/johnnyelvis/DSCF2134.jpgCONTENTSIntroduction Note of Acknowledgement
Hughes, The Wer-wolf: A Kentish Legend of the Middle Ages - Sutherland Menzies (1838) The Dream - Le Fanu (1838) A Chapter in the History of a Tyrone Family - Le Fanu (1839) The Dead Sexton - Le Fanu (1871) The Italian's Story - Catherine Crowe (1859) Round the Fire - Catherine Crowe (1859) The Mysterious Stranger - From the German (1860) The Ghost Detective - Mark Lemon (1866) The Shadow of a Shade - Tom Hood (1869) The Dead Man of Varley Grange (1878) The Ghost in the Bank of England (1879) The Picture on the Wall - Katherine Tynan (1895) The Story of Medhans Lea - E. and H. Heron (1898) The Tomb of Sarah - Frederick George Loring (1900)To be honest with you the best bit about this book is the introduction, where Summers tears into Universal's Dracula which had been out for three years by the time the book was published, by saying: 'The film version of Dracula, when I saw it, seemed to me extraordinarily poor and insignificant. I hasten to add that I am no votary of the cinematograph, and therefore my judgement of these things may probably be discounted.'The introduction runs for a good 35 pages and is very informative on all the authors etc. The stories aint that bad either with Catherine Crowe's emerging as winners, even if they are a bit twee.

I only need and want to see Victorian Ghost Stories for the introduction only, which I can't find anywhere online. Richard Dalby's Library has this copy of the actual book for £140.00! richarddalbyslibrary.com/products/montague-summers-victorian-ghost-stories?_pos=2&_sid=758cb7069&_ss=r

There's a paperback edition on Amazon for £23.99, with a single copy in stock. Looks like this edition was published in 2011.
I already have all or nearly all of the collection's contents in other volumes, so I would also only be interested in the introduction, but at £23.99 will give it a miss as it's just far more than I feel justified in paying.

I noticed a hardcover copy on Biblio just now for 15 pounds (+ 3.50 shipping within the UK) which may still be more than you care to pay.

I noticed a hardcover copy on Biblio just now for 15 pounds (+ 3.50 shipping within the UK) which may still be more than you care to pay. It may turn up online sometime, or at least I hope it might. £18.50 is a better price, but I really couldn't justify it for just the introduction. I find it is far too easy to keep pressing that "Buy" button! Thanks for taking the time to look on biblio. That's a site I often forget to check when looking for books.
