Peter Tremayne: The Horror & Fantasy PaperbacksThe recent interview with 'Peter Tremayne' in Paperback Fanatic impressed upon me that not only is he a sweet, extremely gifted gent, he's also been blessed when it comes to the artwork Sphere saw fit to use for his covers. Needless to say, Justin listed all the best horror & fantasy paperbacks, so the few additions here are mostly in the short story department, Mr. Tremayne being a master of the form. I've left out the crime & Arthurian legend titles, not being at all familiar with them, and there are doubtless many other relevant items overlooked so, as ever, please flesh out and amend as you see fit. - List compiled by Justin Marriott, Paperback Fanatic #9, February 2009. - Hound Of Frankenstein - Mills and Boon, 1977

Thank You for this thread. And yes the covers are stunning. Has anyone actually read Angelus ? always wanted to know about this book.

Erebus, I read Angelus yonks ago. It's a pretty good story (loads better than The Ants which I gave up on early on) but still doesn't quite match that brilliant cover. Murders in a boys school as I recall. I'd certainly read it again (I think it could be the only one of Mr Tremayne's books I've read.)

Here is the omnibus of his Dracula. I guess I started it three times and never got past the first 50 pages. Weird. I don´t get this obsession with Bela Lugosi on covers either. Maybe because his Dracula is such a version of the oily foreigner, not really sinister but rather sleazy. And here is the german version. They only did no.1 and never bothered with the rest. Also a horrible lame cover.

Ants bored the hell out of me to be honest. I was'nt to struck with Zombie and Swamp but for some reason I still want to read Angelus.

Aisling and Other Irish Tales of Terror (Brandon Books, 1992) Aisling Deathstone My Lady of Hy-Brasil The Samhain Feis The Mongfind The Pooka Tavesher Fear a' Ghorta The Dreeador Daoine Domhain AmhránaíI decided to buy this book after reading and enjoying several of Tremayne's Irish-themed stories: "The Samhain Feis" ( Great Irish Tales of Horror, ed. Peter Haining) "The Foxes of Fascoum" ( The Mammoth Book of Werewolves, ed. Stephen Jones), and "Marbh Bheo" ( The Mammoth Book of Zombies, ed. Stephen Jones). With three stories left to go, I'm quite impressed by how Tremayne blends Irish folklore and modern horror.
