These are great, Kev! I can imagine Margaret raising a preposterous eyebrow at the apparition of the hairy leg in the wardrobe, allowing a proper beat for full reaction, then expostulating, "All right Stringer, that's quite enough of that. We go on in five!"
That Owl Service shoot did have tragic consequences. Sombre reading, that.
The James Alexander Gordon story, in outline at least, sounds exactly like an E. F. Benson story I read just a couple of months back. Title may have been "The Other Bed."
Hadn't heard any stories about The Devil's Rain shoot beyond it was a miserable experience for the director and, perhaps, for several others. Whenever that film is mentioned, I always recall a friend riposting when describing the scene where Ernest Borgnine ducks out of scene and pops back up in full Goat Devil makeup, roaring "WHO has summoned MEEEE?": "Not I, Ernie, not I!"
