Yours truly - John Mains will be on BBC Radio Suffolk on the Luke Deal Show at 2pm on the 18th of August talking about the 3rd Black Book of Horror, Uri Geller, and the Pan Books. I was wondering if I'd be able to get Radio Suffolk in Cornwall. Then I thought, "Aha! This is the age of the internet!" www.bbc.co.uk/suffolk/And they have Listen Again. Right now they're playing Duran Duran, but we shan't hold that against them if John's plugging the Black Books. I'm sure our all listening in won't bother you at all, John.

Hooray! Went to Waterstones in Bristol today and found several copies of BB3, so I kindly helped the store staff who had mistakenly put them high on a shelf in the horror section with only the spine showing by moving them all to the 'Staff Recommended' bit so everyone could see that splendid cover.

Brilliant!!
Well - I've got the radio interview thing tomorrow and I've got an interview with the local paper on the Tuesday, so after that, it's straight down to Waterstones to talk about getting a couple of the books in the window display.......
Tried to get WH Smith to stock it, but was given a flat refusal. Buggers.

Ah, you are a Vault of Evil man and no mistake, yer worship! And the word on the street is your dastardly scheme is already paying off! Hitching a ride: An eager young Black Book Of Horror fan yesterday.Which reminds me. I still haven't ordered my copy yet Keep one aside for me please, Dr. Terror, and I'll be onto you toward end of this month! Good luck with that Luke Deal character tomorrow, John. Will try and give it a listen though i'm not sure if dial-up will be able to handle it

Good luck with that Luke Deal character tomorrow, John. Will try and give it a listen though i'm not sure if dial-up will be able to handle it Dem, I have this Free Hi-Q Sound Recorder which could make a hard drive recording - which I imagine I could email to people without broadband, who want to hear this broadcast. The recording isn't very high quality in the free version, but it's listenable. John, have you given an exact broadcast time yet? Maybe I should set my alarm... But there's listen again. Good heavens, I'm getting as nervous about this as you probably are!

I was told to be at the BBC office at 2pm - so I'm expecting to go on straight away. I've got everything written on prompt cards - will tell the producer that I'm not going to be drawn into 'does horror spawn psychos' debate in anyway shape and form - and if there's time, talk about that cute little snub nosed girl that won two medals for good old Blighty in the swimming.

Ah John P, you have all the traits I admire in a chap. Its that opportunistic streak that made Blighty feared over the continent.

THE SCAVENGER - Rog Pile really enjoyed this one, as I said earlier I was put in mind of 'casting the runes'. thought that this one was up there with 'the pit' as one of rog's best.
TAKASHI’S LAST SYMPHONY - Gary McMahon horrible! in a good way, it kept me thinking and wondering. the image it leaves you with at the end is immense.
LAST NIGHT - Joel Lane short but decent. mot the best of mr lanes efforts but a slightly under par lane equals numerous writers at their best.
FAMILY TIES - Steve Lockley & Paul Lewis after hearing some great things about this i sat down and expected some genius, what i got was good but not that good. this put me in mind of the stephen king story where the fisherman comes back for his wife and unborn child on the island off maine.
DEATH-CON 1 - Sean Parker a nice little piece of pure entertainment.
LIKE A BIRD - Mike Chinn i enjoyed this. to be honest i was waiting for a 'bigger' ending but what i got sufficed. the story was a very enjoyable read.
THE SPOON - John Mains throughout the black books the really short pieces have been very entertaining. for very little investment (in terms of reading time) you're virtually guarenteed a decent pay off and this continues that tradition.
SYNCHRONICITY - Craig Herbertson this one really made me smile. the final comments were genius. the scene was really set well and the characters were all very engaging.
IN THE THICKET - Paul Finch again i really enjoyed this but was honestly dissappointed that it turned out to be vampires. bah!
JOHN & JENNY AND THE LUMP: A CAUTIONARY TALE - John Llewellyn Probert a little bit different and all the better for. have you got one?
IN AN OLD OVERCOAT - Frank Nicholas i liked this and really wasn't sure where it was going which made it all the more intriguing for it.
THE LOOKER - Julia Lufford another short piece but to be honset i didn't enjoy this half as much as 'the spoon' (perhaps it was worry about my eyes!)
WHAT WE CANNOT RECALL - Gary Fry this was another great one although i envisaged a completely different ending! (one with squaddies piling out of trucks to clear up a BRITISH experiment!). but that aside this one was great - it did take me a moment to realise it wasn't set in current times or the near future but obviously once there was mention of coventry etc. it all clicked. a bit like robert westall mixed with Pan horror!!
i've missed some out but that's only because my brain is failing to recall them! damn my alcohol addled memory =O(
another great book that has pride of place on my shelves with the previous two volumes - charlie there HAS to be a number four!!!

Good work, Lord P!
Dem, direct that eager young lady up to Mortbury...
Nice review, Ben. It's not the alcohol affecting your memory, though. It's the aliens.

I'm well aware I look like a gay serial killer. My only excuse is that I had a bloody allergic reaction to something I ate earlier in the day. That's why I look lumpen...honest. Click to enlarge etc.

I got some funny looks in the local chippy tonight. And Barry, the Cantonese owner went, 'look Johnny, no trouble - I like my head,' then he and his missus burst into the shits and giggles....
