Anyone else ever read this NEL book?
I've still got a copy. Rather a strange story about a young man with a penchant for knives who finds himself emeshed in an underground world, that could be the domain of Vampires, although it's hard to tell exactly what they are. The writer won a young writers award for the story and I've always felt it was quite good, if odd.
I've never seen another novel by Mr. Clewett, which is a pity as his imagination and writing appeared to have him destined for more stories.

Oh yes, took me 30 years to finish reading it though. Long story...I was 16 on a school camping trip to Exmouth. I was on a beach reading this and put it down to my side, slightly embaressed about the quality of my reading material I swished some sand over it and nodded off. When I woke up, couldn't find it anywhere no matter how much I dug. It could have been nicked or just lost, I don't know. Thanks to Ebay and a shaky memory of the title, I got the copy you see here and finished the story. Odd coming back to it, I could remember a surprising amount though I obviously started from page 1 again. The sudden talent for knife throwing was a clumsy device IMHO. Attachments:

Blood Dynasty (NEL 1973) was sold abroad and published as a Heftroman with the title Worse than Vampires: Vampir Horror Roman, 1980 Don't remember much about it, only that it was one of those novels in which vampires are somehow a race apart or something.
