T. E. D. Klein - Black Man With A Horn: The reason I took this one from the shelf in the first place, there was a copy of Dark Gods on sale, and I looked up how many of these stories I already have. (This collection is stunningly expensive. Why Klein isn't reprinted in a decent way is beyond me.) Regardless, in every aspect as good as I had it in memory. Compared to this the majority of Lovecraft pastiches can be dismissed. This has gotten only better with age. A reprint of Dark Gods sounds like a perfect fit for Valancourt Books. If any publisher does reprint Klein's novellas, they should consider adding "The Events at Poroth Farm" if possible (probably my favorite of his stories). Also worth reviving: his short book of essays on horror fiction, Raising Goosebumps for Fun and Profit.

Here is the rest: T. E. D. It's one of those books that was published in mass market paperbacks on both sides of the Atlantic, so you wonder why it's so expensive online. The sort of book you might find at charity shops and sales for a couple of bucks.

Also worth reviving: his short book of essays on horror fiction, Raising Goosebumps for Fun and Profit. Hippocampus has just issued a bumper collection of Mr. Klein's essays ( link). The price is a bit steep for me at the moment (but it's got nearly 600 pages, so who can complain), if you have some spare cash please do get it and give us a review!

I'll have to get hold of it. I'm tempted, too. As an aside, Hippocampus did a great job with the "Lovecraft's Library" series. I've read three of those books: Incredible Adventures (Algernon Blackwood), The Place Called Dagon (Herbert Gorman), and Cold Harbour/Sinister House (Francis Brett Young/Leland Hall, printed in the old Ace Double style).

I've got the last one, but that's it. Never read A Place Called Dagon, but should get hold of it some time.

Never read A Place Called Dagon, but should get hold of it some time. My memory of it is fuzzy, but I suspect you'll enjoy it if you go in with modest expectations.
