This last is fantastic, mr Des, I'm going to Google the Limbourg brothers now to see if I can find any more, this is just my cup of tea ;D

I can't speak for St. Anthony, but I've always enjoyed a nice Temptation. Here are Max Ernst's thoughts on the subject; Max Ernst, The Temptation of St. Anthony, 1945.

all about francis bacon for me, so 'cthulhuesque' it's unreal!! planning a story around one of them as we speak. You probably know this but just in case - there's a big Francis Bacon exhibition on at Tate Britain this Autumn which I think is going to be very much worth seeing. I've been looking forward to it for ages. He seemed to have that rare ability to dredge things out of the unconscious whole and entire that we don't normally get to look at directly (or not whilst awake anyway). www.tate.org.uk/britain/exhibitions/francisbacon/default.shtm
