The plot thickens ... ISFDB says that James Moss Cardwell ("Adobe James") is also the same "James McArdwell" who wrote "The Green Umbilical Cord" in Pan #9.

This is bizarre. For my second horror story of (yawn) Shocktober, I went for Gerald Kersh's Men Without Bones *possible spoilers* Tainted with the 'orrible SF, it's a pretty good 'in the jungle' horror story, but but but - was this an influence on Quatermass & The Pit? Or is it just me?

I haven't read the story, but the original publication was in 1954 in Esquire, which I don't think circulated in the UK--however, the book publication by Heinemann followed the next year,1955, in an anthology that bore this story's name as the title. Intriguing...

Does anyone need one of these (1964 paperback edition) to complete their set? If so please let me know and I'll stick one in the post. I've just installed an additional set of bookshelves and as the boxes of books come down from the attic (I haven't yet reached the unhappy stage where I realise most of them will have to be repackaged and lugged back up there) I'm turning up various doubles
