I'll return to this proper when I have a bit more time. Found it in the hospital on Saturday and loved the cover - a double page spread obviously based on The Birds (which I still haven't read! despite finding that Dave Allen antho). It was an Armada Lion so presumably aimed at younger readers - published in 1972 (copyright Hitch '67). I was impressed by some of the stories within. Not only the Du Maurier classic, but Agatha Crusty, Dorothy L Slayers and (must we fling this filth at our pop kids?) Robert Bloch's Yours Truly, Jack The Ripper - which I've just read and enjoyed (especially the lights out sequence)

Junior Bookshelf Must we fling this filth at our pop kids (reprise!)? Surely this little lot was far too good for the little bleeders? I don't think I owned this as a child, but wouldn't be surprised if I'd spent quite a while staring at that cover in a bookshop, wishing.
