June Johns - Black Magic Today (Nel, 1971) Blurb: …. Altars defiled …. Animals mutilated and slaughtered … These are just the tip of an iceberg of incidents are beginning to appear with increasing regularity in the newspaper headlines. What sort of people practice Black Magic and how great a threat is it?
Journalist June Johns has done her research well and her revelations will shock and, possibly, frighten you. She tells of the cruelties and sexual perversions used in the practice of magic and the way drugs and blackmail have debased its participants. What really happens “after the Ball is over” at leading country houses? And, indeed, the simplest question of all - what exactly is Black Magic?[/color] Black Magic enjoyed something of a renaissance amongst the country's youth at the close of the 'sixties - at least, it did as far as the News of the World were concerned. Commendably, NEL decided to confront this phenomenon head on and commissioned books by respected commentators June Johns ( Black Magic Today, 1971) and Francis King ( Sexuality, Magic & Perversion - not as much fun as it sounds - 1972). Then they plonked photo's of women's' bums on the cover. Genius. In my copy somebody’s written: Comment. Of interest but little value. They don’t know what they’re talking about! This is like the true successor to Haining & Sellwood's superlative Devil Worship In Britain! It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Mr. Haining gave her access to his collection of black magic press clippings either as this duplicates several that appeared in Devil Worship, The Satanists & Co.
