Douglas Hayes - Quite A Good Address (Panther, 1975) Cover photograph by Beverley Le Barrow Blurb: Buster is an actor, sharing digs and pawn tickets at the Camden (wrong) end of Albany Street with Edmund, another actor. It is 1952 and times are hard, especially for actors doubling as writers and ice cream factory workers. The draught blows out the gas ring, none of the windows shut and the paint in the bath covers a murderously rough bed of rust. But, as Edmund says, Albany Street NW1 is quite a good address - and as Buster finds out, one at which various ladies are very keen to spend the night ...
The sixth hilarious novel in Douglas Hayes's bawdy series, Quite A Good Address continues the ribald adventures of the lusty hero of My Father In His Dizzerbell, The Shy Young Man, The War Of '39, Tomorrow The Apricots and A Player's Hide, all available in Panther books.
'Characteristic zestful humour' - SUNDAY TIMEScould be a LONG TIME before i get around to this as i now have a separate 'to read' pile devoted entirely to smut. What interested me enough to pick this up was that for once we actually get a photography credit. A crafty google reveals that Beverley Le Barrow was prolific throughout the glory years of steamy/ badly posed cover photo's. Major triumphs include a series of Panther's James Bond reprints (1977), sundry Stanley Morgan sex comedies, and, for Grafton, at least three Xaviera Hollander romps (which you can view at Jim Thing)

Another of Beverley's beauties, this tasteful suspenders at a funeral job as investigated by Perry Mason Erle Stanley Gardner - The Case Of The Angry Mourner (Granada, 1981) Cover photograph by Beverley Le Barrow Blurb: A Woman's scream, a pistol shot, the sound of breaking glass disturb the silence of the frosty night. Who killed Arthur Cushing? Did Carlotta Adrian rebuff the playboy's advances with murder? That's what her mother thinks. But Carlotta seems just as suspicious of her mother as her mother is of her! Crack investigative lawyer Perry Mason is only on the scene for a skiing holiday, but a baffling murder and a beautiful girl make for the kind of case he never could refuse ...
